TLDR
In this paper, a comprehensive overview of image correlation for shape, motion and deformation measurements is provided. But, the authors do not discuss the effect of out-of-plane motion on 2D measurements.
Abstract
Image Correlation for Shape, Motion and Deformation Measurements provides a comprehensive overview of data extraction through image analysis. Readers will find and in-depth look into various single- and multi-camera models (2D-DIC and 3D-DIC), two- and three-dimensional computer vision, and volumetric digital image correlation (VDIC). Fundamentals of accurate image matching are described, along with presentations of both new methods for quantitative error estimates in correlation-based motion measurements, and the effect of out-of-plane motion on 2D measurements. Thorough appendices offer descriptions of continuum mechanics formulations, methods for local surface strain estimation and non-linear optimization, as well as terminology in statistics and probability. With equal treatment of computer vision fundamentals and techniques for practical applications, this volume is both a reference for academic and industry-based researchers and engineers, as well as a valuable companion text for appropriate vision-based educational offerings.

Assessment of digital image correlation method in determining large scale cemented rockfill strains

TL;DR: In this paper, a conventional contact method (using linear transducers) and a non-contact method are deployed to measure the axial and lateral deformations of large scale cylindrical cemented rockfill specimens.

An Accurate Method for Shape Retrieval and Displacement Measurement Using Bi-Prism-Based Single Lens 3D Digital Image Correlation

TL;DR: A novel and practical shape retrieval method based on a geometrical optics analysis using the reverse ray tracing method, which is performed in 3D space and takes into account the possible model errors induced by the system misalignment and the lens distortion.

An extension of digital volume correlation for multimodality image registration

TL;DR: In this paper, an extension of global digital image correlation is proposed for registering two images acquired with different modalities, and thus exhibiting different contrast, at different positions based on a specific comparison metric allowing the signature of the different phases to be related.

On the fracture behaviour of fibre-reinforced gypsum using micro and macro polymer fibres

TL;DR: In this paper, the fracture behavior of gypsum specimens reinforced with several types of polymer fibres was assessed, for one of them three fiber lengths were studied, with one being of microscopic scale and the other two of macroscopic scale.

The effect of temperature on the failure modes of polymer foam cored sandwich structures

TL;DR: In this article, a new analytical solution is proposed that enables the calculation of the critical wrinkling stress in sandwich beams subjected to load and elevated temperatures, where the effect of a through thickness temperature gradient is accounted for by imposing different stiffnesses of the core for different temperatures.
