TLDR
In this paper, a comprehensive overview of image correlation for shape, motion and deformation measurements is provided. But, the authors do not discuss the effect of out-of-plane motion on 2D measurements.
Abstract
Image Correlation for Shape, Motion and Deformation Measurements provides a comprehensive overview of data extraction through image analysis. Readers will find and in-depth look into various single- and multi-camera models (2D-DIC and 3D-DIC), two- and three-dimensional computer vision, and volumetric digital image correlation (VDIC). Fundamentals of accurate image matching are described, along with presentations of both new methods for quantitative error estimates in correlation-based motion measurements, and the effect of out-of-plane motion on 2D measurements. Thorough appendices offer descriptions of continuum mechanics formulations, methods for local surface strain estimation and non-linear optimization, as well as terminology in statistics and probability. With equal treatment of computer vision fundamentals and techniques for practical applications, this volume is both a reference for academic and industry-based researchers and engineers, as well as a valuable companion text for appropriate vision-based educational offerings.

The effect of fiber undulation on the strain field for pinned composite/titanium joints under tension

TL;DR: In this paper, the way fiber undulation around pins affects pinned composite/titanium joints' stiffness and strength properties is illustrated for double-lap-shear joints under quasi-static tensile loading.

Fabrication of speckle patterns by focused ion beam deposition and its application to micro-scale residual stress measurement

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deal with the characterization of influence parameters on the fabrication of speckle patterns using FIB deposition, such as the quality of the template, total deposition time, ion beam current density, and dwell time.

Measurement of kinematic fields via DIC for impact engineering applications

TL;DR: In this paper, two dynamic Brazilian tests are analyzed via digital image correlation for acquisition rates equal to 5 and 10 million frames per second, and the observed levels are consistent with a priori estimates.

Trinocular stereo system with object space oriented correlation for inner pipe inspection

TL;DR: In this paper, a trinocular stereo system is used to measure the geometry of a pipe's inner wall using a point cloud intrinsically organized in a regular mesh in a cylindrical coordinate system, which is then projected to each image plane using the inverse triangulation approach.

Dynamic fracture behavior of a MAX phase Ti3SiC2

TL;DR: In this article, an over-deterministic least squares analysis was used to extract dynamic anisotropic mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) from pre-cracked coupons of MAX phase Ti3SiC2, and high-speed imaging combined with digital image correlation (DIC) captured full-field displacement data during loading and subsequent fracture.
