The paper discusses the future potential, barriers and opportunities for applying the approach in scientific research, in policy making and in bridging the two through a global SDG Interactions Knowledge Platform as a key mechanism for assembling, systematizing and aggregating knowledge on interactions.Abstract:
Pursuing integrated research and decision-making to advance action on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) fundamentally depends on understanding interactions between the SDGs, both negative ones (“trade-offs”) and positive ones (“co-benefits”). This quest, triggered by the 2030 Agenda, has however pointed to a gap in current research and policy analysis regarding how to think systematically about interactions across the SDGs. This paper synthesizes experiences and insights from the application of a new conceptual framework for mapping and assessing SDG interactions using a defined typology and characterization approach. Drawing on results from a major international research study applied to the SDGs on health, energy and the ocean, it analyses how interactions depend on key factors such as geographical context, resource endowments, time horizon and governance. The paper discusses the future potential, barriers and opportunities for applying the approach in scientific research, in policy making and in bridging the two through a global SDG Interactions Knowledge Platform as a key mechanism for assembling, systematizing and aggregating knowledge on interactions.read more

Six transformations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
Jeffrey D. Sachs,Guido Schmidt-Traub,Mariana Mazzucato,Dirk Messner,Nebojsa Nakicenovic,Johan Rockström +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce six SDG Transformations as modular building-blocks of SDG achievement: education, gender and inequality; health, well-being and demography; energy decarbonization and sustainable industry; sustainable food, land, water and oceans; sustainable cities and communities; and digital revolution for sustainable development.
Assessing the Impact
TL;DR: In this article, the authors offer suggestions related to helping a student deal with bullying in schools, as well as creating an environment where that individual can easily return to the school community.

TL;DR: The climate change–impact literature is reviewed, expanding on the recent report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and it is argued that impacts accelerating as a function of distance from the optimal temperature for an organism or an ecosystem process is a consequence of impacts accelerating.

Towards systemic and contextual priority setting for implementing the 2030 Agenda
TL;DR: This paper presents an approach to assessing systemic and contextual interactions of SDG targets, using a typology for scoring interactions in a cross-impact matrix and using network analysis techniques to explore the data.

World development report 2008 : agriculture for development
TL;DR: Agriculture is a vital development tool for achieving the Millennium Development Goal that calls for halving by 2015 the share of people suffering from extreme poverty and hunger as mentioned in this paper, which is the overall message of this year's World Development Report (WDR), the 30th in the series.

TL;DR: Since the IPCC Third Assessment Report (TAR), our understanding of the implications of climate change for coastal systems and low-lying areas (henceforth referred to as "coasts") has increased substantially and six important policy-relevant messages have emerged as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify three categories of challenges that have to be addressed to maintain and enhance human health in the face of increasingly harmful environmental trends: conceptual and empathy failures (imagination challenges), such as an overreliance on gross domestic product as a measure of human progress, the failure to account for future health and environmental harms over present day gains, and the disproportionate eff ect of those harms on the poor and those in developing nations.

TL;DR: The results show that global conservation targets based on area alone will not optimize protection of marine biodiversity, and more emphasis is needed on better MPA design, durable management and compliance to ensure that MPAs achieve their desired conservation value.
