In this paper, a novel application of capacitance-voltage measurements to determine simultaneously the band discontinuities (ΔEV, ΔEC) and interface charge density (σ) of heterojunctions is described.
Abstract
The present article describes a novel application of capacitance–voltage measurements to determine simultaneously the band discontinuities (ΔEV, ΔEC) and interface charge density (σ) of heterojunctions. The method, which we refer to as C–V matching, complements the most versatile C–V profiling technique proposed by Kroemer and successfully applied by others. In contrast to the C–V profiling which is limited to isotype heterojunctions, the new method is applicable to p-n heterojunctions as well. The methodology is based on three cardinal equations which are not controversial—the lineup of the bands relative to the common Fermi level (at equilibrium) or the quasi-Fermi levels (when voltage is applied), the charge neutrality and the expression for the total capacitance of the heterostructure. The three equations are formulated for equilibrium as well as nonequilibrium conditions, using quasi-Fermi levels and the quasi-equilibrium approximation. The three cardinal equations are defined by the two constant (al...

Mechanical ventilation alters airway nucleotides and purinoceptors in lung and extrapulmonary organs.

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that mechanical ventilation (MV) would alter the extracellular adenyl-nucleotide profile and purinoceptor expression in lung and extrapulmonary tissues and PEEP normalizes the BAL nucleotide profiles and receptor patterns in lung, liver, and kidney.

Na,K-ATPase gene transfer increases liquid clearance during ventilation-induced lung injury.

TL;DR: First evidence is provided that using a genetic approach improves active Na+ transport and thus liquid clearance in the setting of mild ventilation-induced lung injury in a model of HVT.

Capillary filtration coefficient, vascular resistance, and compliance in isolated mouse lungs.

TL;DR: Although many recently produced transgenic mice possess gene alterations affecting pulmonary vascular function, there are few baseline measurements of vascular resistance and permeability as discussed by the authors, and therefore there is no baseline measurement of pulmonary vascular disease.

Evaluation of two-way protein fluxes across the alveolo-capillary membrane by scintigraphy in rats: effect of lung inflation.

TL;DR: Pulmonary microvascular and alveolar epithelial permeability were evaluated in vivo by scintigraphic imaging during lung distension by instilling a solution containing 99mTc-albumin in a bronchus and showed that the zone of alveolars flooding underwent the same distension as the contralateral lung during inflation with gas.

Heterojunction band discontinuities

TL;DR: In this article, the conduction band edge discontinuity ΔEc = 0.56 eV at n−CdS/p−InP junctions is reported, and the performance of this discontinuity and others are compared with photoemission data and with Van Vechten's extension of these data to many tetrahedrally coordinated semiconductors.
