TLDR
Phylogenetic analysis using 31 Vg sequences from 25 insect species reflects, in general, the current phylogenies of insects, suggesting that Vgs are still phylogenetically bound, although a divergence exists among them.

The microRNA pathway core genes are indispensable for development and reproduction in the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors conducted a systematic characterisation of miRNA pathway core genes in Nilaparvata lugens and found that miRNA core genes exhibited similar expression patterns, with high expression levels in eggs and relatively high transcriptional levels in the ovaries and fat bodies of females.

Reproductive systems

TL;DR: The basic ground plan of male and female insect reproductive systems and the structural variations present in different insects are described in this article , where a variety of other methods evolved, including types of parthenogenesis and viviparity.

Dietary calcium (Ca2+) impacts Ca2+ content and molecular expression of Ca2+-transporters in Malpighian tubules of the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti

Peter M. Piermarini
- 03 Apr 2023 -
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the effect of dietary Ca2+ loads from sucrose or blood meals on the renal tubule of Aedes aegypti adults and found that feeding females for 6 days ad libitum on 10% sucrose with elevated ca2+ concentration led to concentration-dependent increases of the Ca 2+ content in Malpighian tubules.

Mammalian subtilisins: The long-sought dibasic processing endoproteases

TL;DR: After many years of searching for the enzymes responsible for cleavage of mammalian proproteins and prohormones at sites comprised of pairs of basic amino acid residues (“dibasic sites”), the solution to this enigma of cell biology appears to be in sight.

Accumulation of yolk proteins in insect oocytes

TL;DR: In insects, accumulation of yolk, or vitellogenesis, is a heterosynthetic pro cess, in which an extraovarian tissue, the fat body, produces yolk protein precursors, and the role of endocytosis in yolk deposition in insect oocytes is implicated.
