TLDR
Phylogenetic analysis using 31 Vg sequences from 25 insect species reflects, in general, the current phylogenies of insects, suggesting that Vgs are still phylogenetically bound, although a divergence exists among them.

Heme-binding storage proteins in the Chelicerata.

TL;DR: Comparisons with non-chelicerate arthropods are made in order to highlight the mechanisms and putative functions of heme-binding storage proteins and their possible critical function in the evolution of hematophagy.

Sublethal effects of chlorfenapyr on the life table parameters, nutritional physiology and enzymatic properties of Bradysia odoriphaga (Diptera: Sciaridae).

TL;DR: The results of this study suggest that low lethal concentrations of chlorfenapyr can affect oviposition, population development, the activities of digestion and detoxification enzymes, and nutrient accumulation in B. odoriphaga.
Journal ArticleDOI

TOR Pathway-Mediated Juvenile Hormone Synthesis Regulates Nutrient-Dependent Female Reproduction in Nilaparvata lugens (Stal).

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the TOR pathway induces JH biosynthesis that in turn regulates AAs-mediated Vg synthesis in N. lugens and that application of rapamycin partially rescued the Vg expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Iron metabolism in hard ticks (Acari: Ixodidae): The antidote to their toxic diet

TL;DR: The current knowledge on heme and inorganic iron metabolism in hard ticks is compared with that in vertebrates and other arthropods and other aspects of tick iron metabolism that warrant further investigation are pointed out.

Mammalian subtilisins: The long-sought dibasic processing endoproteases

TL;DR: After many years of searching for the enzymes responsible for cleavage of mammalian proproteins and prohormones at sites comprised of pairs of basic amino acid residues (“dibasic sites”), the solution to this enigma of cell biology appears to be in sight.

Accumulation of yolk proteins in insect oocytes

TL;DR: In insects, accumulation of yolk, or vitellogenesis, is a heterosynthetic pro cess, in which an extraovarian tissue, the fat body, produces yolk protein precursors, and the role of endocytosis in yolk deposition in insect oocytes is implicated.
