TLDR
Phylogenetic analysis using 31 Vg sequences from 25 insect species reflects, in general, the current phylogenies of insects, suggesting that Vgs are still phylogenetically bound, although a divergence exists among them.

Deconstructing honeybee vitellogenin: novel 40 kDa fragment assigned to its N terminus

TL;DR: The experiments advance the molecular understanding of vitellogenin, of which the multiple physiological and behavioral effects in honeybees are well established, and indicate that the honeybee fat body viteLLogenin experiences cleavage unlike hemolymph vitelling, a pattern that can suggest a tissue-specific role.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterisation of two vitellogenins in the salmon louse Lepeophtheirus salmonis: molecular, functional and evolutional analysis.

TL;DR: The role of vitellogenins in reproduction as providers of embryonic and larval nutrition is confirmed and the view that crustaceans are a polyphyletic group is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vitellogenin and its receptor play essential roles in the development and reproduction of the brown citrus aphid, Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that Vg and VgR are involved in various aspects of aphid development and reproduction and could help to elucidate the reproductive mechanism and provide information that will be useful for developing new pest control strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular characterization and function analysis of the vitellogenin receptor from the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae)

TL;DR: Findings demonstrate that HaVgR is a specific receptor in uptake and transportation of yolk protein for the maturation of oocytes and that it plays a critical role in female reproduction.

Mammalian subtilisins: The long-sought dibasic processing endoproteases

TL;DR: After many years of searching for the enzymes responsible for cleavage of mammalian proproteins and prohormones at sites comprised of pairs of basic amino acid residues (“dibasic sites”), the solution to this enigma of cell biology appears to be in sight.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accumulation of yolk proteins in insect oocytes

TL;DR: In insects, accumulation of yolk, or vitellogenesis, is a heterosynthetic pro cess, in which an extraovarian tissue, the fat body, produces yolk protein precursors, and the role of endocytosis in yolk deposition in insect oocytes is implicated.
