TLDR
The hallmarks of necrotizing fasciitis are friable superficial fascia, gray exudate without pus, and widespread tissue destruction.
Abstract
The hallmarks of necrotizing fasciitis are friable superficial fascia, gray exudate without pus, and widespread tissue destruction. The infection is either polymicrobial or monomicrobial. Early surgical debridement and appropriate antibiotics are crucial for recovery.

Severe group a streptococcal infections associated with a toxic shock-life syndrome and scarlet fever toxin

TL;DR: From the study of this cluster of severe streptococcal infections with a toxic shock-like syndrome, it is concluded that in the Rocky Mountain region, more virulent group A Streptococci have reappeared that produce the pyrogenic toxin A associated with scarlet fever.

Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection: Diagnostic Accuracy of Physical Examination, Imaging, and LRINEC Score: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

TL;DR: Accuracy of physical examination, imaging, and Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis (LRINEC) score in diagnosis of necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) in adults with a hard tissue infection clinically concerning for NSTI is summarized.

Surviving Sepsis Campaign: International Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock: 2016

Andrew Rhodes, +58 more
TL;DR: Although a significant number of aspects of care have relatively weak support, evidence-based recommendations regarding the acute management of sepsis and septic shock are the foundation of improved outcomes for these critically ill patients with high mortality.

The LRINEC (Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis) score: a tool for distinguishing necrotizing fasciitis from other soft tissue infections.

TL;DR: The LRINEC score, based on laboratory tests routinely performed for the evaluation of severe soft tissue infections, is a robust score capable of detecting even clinically early cases of necrotizing fasciitis.

Severe group A streptococcal infections associated with a toxic shock-like syndrome and scarlet fever toxin A

TL;DR: Twenty patients from the Rocky Mountain region who had group A streptococcal infections from 1986 to 1988 that were remarkable for the severity of local tissue destruction and life-threatening systemic toxicity are described.

Necrotizing Fasciitis Caused by Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Los Angeles

TL;DR: In areas in which community-associated MRSA infection is endemic, empirical treatment of suspected necrotizing fasciitis should include antibiotics predictably active against this pathogen.
