Along-arc, inter-arc and arc-to-arc variations in volcanic gas CO2/ST ratios reveal dual source of carbon in arc volcanism

TL;DR: In this article, the global variations of volcanic arc CO 2 /S T gas ratios are reviewed and a subset of high-temperature (≥450°C) arc gases are selected to be used to infer the deep source of volatiles.

Degassing dynamics of basaltic lava lake at a top-ranking volatile emitter: Ambrym volcano, Vanuatu arc

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the first high-resolution measurements of vigorous lava lake degassing inside its 300 m deep Benbow crater using OP-FTIR spectroscopy, revealing a highly dynamic degassing pattern involving (i) recurrent (100-200 s) short-period oscillations of the volcanic gas composition and temperature, correlating with pulsated gas emission and sourced in the upper part of the lava lake, (ii) a continuous long period (∼8 min) modulation probably due to the influx of fresh fresh magma at the bottom of the lake

Coupling Between Magmatic Degassing and Volcanic Tremor in Basaltic Volcanism

TL;DR: In this paper, the long-term relationship between degassing and tremor at Mt. Etna has been investigated, focusing on the frequency-dependence of tremor and passive degassing behavior.

Retrieval of atmospheric temperature and composition from remote measurements of thermal radiation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a review of the methods which may be used to estimate the state of the atmosphere, i.e., the distribution of temperature and composition, from measurements of emitted thermal radiation such as are made by remote sounding instruments on satellites.

VOLATILECALC: a silicate melt-H 2 O-CO 2 solution model written in Visual Basic for excel

TL;DR: The VOLATILECALC solution models for the rhyolite-H2O-CO2 and basalt-H 2 O-CO 2 systems at magmatic temperatures and pressures below ∼ 5000 bar are presented in this paper.

Ascent and eruption of basaltic magma on the earth and moon

TL;DR: In this paper, the ascent and emplacement of basaltic magma on the earth and moon is modeled by the application of geological and physical observations and constraints, provided that allowance is made for the coalescence of gas bubbles.

Melt inclusion record of the conditions of ascent, degassing, and extrusion of volatile-rich alkali basalt during the powerful 2002 flank eruption of Mount Etna (Italy)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors decipher the origin and mechanisms of the second eruption from the composition and volatile (H2O, CO2, S, Cl) content of olivine-hosted melt inclusions in explosive products from its south flank vents.
