Occurrence of flavonoids in Ophrys (Orchidaceae) flower parts

TL;DR: A UV-protective role for flavonoids in the flower parts of these plants is suggested, which could be related to the flavonol-depended male fertility known from other plant species.

Role of Salicylic Acid in Heavy Metal Stress Tolerance: Insight into Underlying Mechanism

TL;DR: Salicylic acid (SA) is an imperative endogenous plant hormone that has a crucial role in regulation of various physiological and metabolic processes in plants and is considered as one of the most important signaling molecule involved in both abiotic and biotic stress tolerance.

Bioactive compounds from northern plants.

TL;DR: Northern conditions are characterised by long days with much light and low temperatures during the growing season, so herbs and berries grown in the north are stronger tasting compared to those of southern origin, and secondary metabolites imparting aroma and color to berries and herbs are secondary metabolites which in plants mostly act as chemical means of defense.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phytochemical analysis, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Euphorbia golondrina L.C. Wheeler (Euphorbiaceae Juss.): an unexplored medicinal herb reported from Cameroon

TL;DR: GC–MS profile of E. golondrina steam distilled volatiles revealed that the plant has potent phytoconstituent classes such as sesquiterpenes, monoterpene, alkaloids, phenolics and aromatic hydrocarbons, which partially justifies the ethnomedicinal uses of the plant in Cameroon.

Processing and Quality Control of Herbal Drugs and Their Derivatives

TL;DR: After the 1960s, there was a lack of interest from pharmaceutical companies and research institutes in the search for new substances from plant origin, due to the belief that the main active ingredients from known herbal drugs had already been isolated and all possible chemical modifications in these substances had been removed.
