Distribution of invasive plants in the Nitra river basin: threats and benefits for food production

TL;DR: The principal components analysis of habitat preferences of invasive plants in the Nitra river basin showed that the majority of invasive plant growing along rivers is edible and invasive plants preferring drier agricultural fields or grasslands are toxic and/or allergenic with low or zero level of edibility.

Bauerane Induces S-Phase Cell Cycle Arrest, Apoptosis, and Inhibition of Proliferation of A549 Human Lung Cancer Cells Through the Phosphoinositide 3-Kinase (PI3K)/AKT and Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) Signaling Pathway.

TL;DR: Bauerane inhibited the proliferation of A549 lung cancer cells in vitro and induced cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in a dose-dependent manner and phosphorylation of PI3K/AKT and STAT3 signaling pathways was inhibited.

Responses of beech and spruce foliage to elevated carbon dioxide, increased nitrogen deposition and soil type

TL;DR: Young central European beech and spruce trees, growing on either acidic or calcareous forest soil, were exposed to elevated CO2 and nitrogen deposition as forecast for the period 2050–2100, leading to an accumulation of tannins, cell wall thickening and an acceleration of cell senescence in both species.

Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oil of Launaea lanifera Pau grown in Algerian arid steppes

TL;DR: In this article, the essential oil composition and the antibacterial activity of an Algerian endemic plant, Launaea lanifera Pau (L.lanifera ), grown in arid steppe regions were evaluated.

Secondary metabolites that could contribute to the monodominance of Erythrina fusca in the Brazilian Pantanal

TL;DR: The results suggest that erythrinic alkaloids should interfere in the root length once the seeds accumulate almost exclusively this class of compounds, and show that this phytotoxicity influences monodominance of E. fusca in Pantanal.
