Prevention of Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity by the Ethanol Extract of Capparis moonii Fruits in Rats

TLDR
The extract of C. moonii produced significant lowering of the elevated Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminace (SGOT) Serumglutamicpyraric transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and a rise of depleted total protein when compared with the toxic control.
Abstract
The effect of the ethanol extract of Capparis moonii Hook f Thoms (Capparidaceae) fruits was studied in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatotoxicity in rats The hepatotoxicity was induced in rats with the administration of 1 : 1 (v/v) mixture of CCl4 in olive oil at the dose of 1 ml/kg subcutaneously on day 7 The ethanol extract of C moonii (200 mg/kg) and the standard drug silymarin (25 mg/kg) were given orally from day 1 to day 9 The extract of C moonii produced significant (p < 0001) lowering of the elevated Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminace (SGOT) Serum glutamicpyraric transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and a rise of depleted total protein when compared with the toxic control The results were comparable with the standard drug silymarin

Hepatoprotective Activity of Methanol Extract of Tecomella undulata against Alcohol and Paracetamol Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

D Singh, +1 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate the hepatoprotective potential of T. undulata leaves against liver damage might be due to the presence of flavonoids, quinones and other bioactive constituents.

Prevalence and current therapy in chronic liver disorders.

TL;DR: This review shows that numerous plants are found to contain hepatoprotective compounds, however, further studies are needed to determine their association with existing regimes of antiviral medicines and to develop evidence-based alternative medicine to cure different kinds of liver disease in humans.

Estimation of Plasma Phosphatase by Determination of Hydrolysed Phenol with Amino-antipyrine

TL;DR: The conditions under which enzymic hydrolysis is carried out are the same as in the King-Armstrong method, as modified by King (1951), the amino-antipyrine reagent (A.A.P.) being used to estimate the phenol liberated.

Carbon tetrachloride hepatotoxicity

TL;DR: The knowledge that hepatic triglyceride secretion involves a dual mechanism has provided a powerful new guide for the analysis of mechanisms underlying fatty liver disease, and a central requirement of this hypothesis must be that if over supply of fatty acids is to be invoked as a significant factor in the pathogenesis of fatty liver, then the oversupply must be of sufficient magnitude and duration.

Hepatoprotective activity of verbenalin on experimental liver damage in rodents

TL;DR: A significant hepatoprotective effect was observed as evident from shortened hexobarbitone sleeping time and zoxazolamine paralysis time in mice which were increased by CCl 4 treatment.
