Quantum and classical size effects in the thermoelectric power of thin bismuth films
D. D. Thornburg,C. M. Wayman +1 more
TLDR
In this paper, anomalous behavior of the thermoelectric power of thin Bi films has been observed and the results are consistent with those anticipated, based on both quantum and classical size effects in scattering.Abstract:
Anomalous behaviour of the thermoelectric power of thin Bi films has been observed and the results are consistent with those anticipated, based on both quantum and classical size effects in scattering. Mayer's theory relating thermoelectric power to film thickness can be applied to the present results provided that the bulk conduction electron mean free path is used for calculations of the thermoelectric power of thick specimens and that the conduction electron de Broglie wavelength is used for thin specimens.read more

Quantum-size effects in n-type bismuth thin films
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors attribute this oscillatory behavior to quantum-size effects, which are observable when the electron mean-free path and Fermi wave length exceed the film thickness d.

Temperature and thickness dependence of electrical and thermal transport coefficients of Bi1–xSbx films in an anisotropic, non-degenerate two-band model
F. Völklein,E. Kessler +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the thickness and temperature dependences of electrical and thermal transport coefficients (e.g. electrical conductivity, thermoelectric power, thermal conductivity) of Bi1-xSbx films are described by a non-degenerated two-band model, considering the anisotropic elliptical band structure (many-valley model).

Thermopower in Thin‐Film Copper—Constantan Couples
TL;DR: In this article, the thickness dependence of the thermal emf of thin-film copper thermocouples at room temperature and above was investigated and it was shown that when the thickness of both elements comprising the thermocouple is greater than ∼1200 A, the thermal response time of the thermouples as measured with a pulsed laser beam heating source is less than 10−6 sec.

Thermoelectric Power of Vacuum‐Evaporated Au–Ni Thin‐Film Thermocouples
D. D. Thornburg,C. M. Wayman +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the thickness dependence of the Seebeck coefficient for Ni films of variable thickness on bulk Au was determined and found to be sensitive to the thermal history of the thin film thermocouples.
