Research on aerosol sources and chemical composition: Past, current and emerging issues

TLDR
In spite of considerable progress in recent years, a quantitative and predictive understanding of atmospheric aerosol sources, chemical composition, transformation processes and environmental effects is still rather limited, and therefore represents a major research challenge in atmospheric science as discussed by the authors.

Role of snow and cold environment in the fate and effects of nanoparticles and select organic pollutants from gasoline engine exhaust

TL;DR: The alteration of exhaust aerosol size distributions at freezing temperatures and in the presence of snow, accompanied by changes of the organic pollutant content in snow, has potential to alter health effects of human exposure to vehicle exhaust.

Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Organic and Black Carbon Mass Concentrations in Lithuania

TL;DR: In this article, both organic carbon (OC) and black carbon (BC) mass concentrations were measured in Lithuania at coastal/marine (Preila), rural (Rūgsteliskis), and urban background (Vilnius) environments have been analyzed to infer the spatial and temporal distributions of the OC/BC ratios from May 2013 to October 2014.

Impact of the wood combustion in an open fireplace on the air quality of a living room: Estimation of the respirable fraction

TL;DR: Assessment conducted according to ISO standard 7708:1995 demonstrated that a person who stays in a living room when an open fireplace is lit will inhale, on average, 217μgm-3 and 283μgm -3 during the ignition and the refueling stages, respectively, and subsequent refueling proved to be much less polluting.

Towards a holistic approach to the geochemistry of solid inorganic particles in the urban environment.

TL;DR: This study confirms that various environmental media are carriers of diverse geochemical information and highlights the importance of a holistic approach in geochemistry of PM in urban areas.

Limononic Acid Oxidation by Hydroxyl Radicals and Ozone in the Aqueous Phase

TL;DR: Calculated atmospheric lifetimes due to reaction with OH and O3 strongly indicate that aqueous-phase oxidation can be important for LA under realistic atmospheric conditions.

Climate change 2001: the scientific basis

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an overview of the climate system and its dynamics, including observed climate variability and change, the carbon cycle, atmospheric chemistry and greenhouse gases, and their direct and indirect effects.

Atmospheric chemistry and physics: from air pollution to climate change.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a model for the chemistry of the Troposphere of the atmosphere and describe the properties of the Atmospheric Aqueous phase of single aerosol particles.
