Sample size and optimal designs for reliability studies

TLDR
A functional approximation to earlier exact results is shown to have excellent agreement with the exact results and one can use it easily without intensive numerical computation.
Abstract
A method is developed to calculate the required number of subjects k in a reliability study, where reliability is measured using the intraclass correlation rho. The method is based on a functional approximation to earlier exact results. The approximation is shown to have excellent agreement with the exact results and one can use it easily without intensive numerical computation. Optimal design configurations are also discussed; for reliability values of about 40 per cent or higher, use of two or three observations per subject will minimize the total number of observations required.

Ultrasound-observed tendon abnormalities in lateral epicondylalgia: Exploring associations with neurosensory and clinical outcomes

TL;DR: This thesis demonstrates that the composite US scoring method has good inter-and intra-rater reliability in grading tendon abnormalities in LE and investigates the effectiveness of prolotherapy injections, manual therapy/exercise, both singly and in combination in improving tendon structural and sensory abnormalities over time.

Development and Pilot Study of an iOS Smartphone Application for Perioperative Functional Capacity Assessment.

TL;DR: A pilot study demonstrated that a smartphone-based functional capacity assessment is feasible using the DASI and 6MWT and future studies are needed to improve the smartphone application’s step-counting accuracy and distance estimation algorithm.
