Sample size and optimal designs for reliability studies

Abstract
A method is developed to calculate the required number of subjects k in a reliability study, where reliability is measured using the intraclass correlation rho. The method is based on a functional approximation to earlier exact results. The approximation is shown to have excellent agreement with the exact results and one can use it easily without intensive numerical computation. Optimal design configurations are also discussed; for reliability values of about 40 per cent or higher, use of two or three observations per subject will minimize the total number of observations required.

Interobserver reliability of radiologists' interpretations of mobile chest radiographs for nursing home-acquired pneumonia.

TL;DR: The interrater agreement among radiologists for mobile chest radiographs in establishing the presence or absence of an infiltrate can be judged to be "fair." Treatment decisions need to include clinical findings and should not be made based on radiographic findings alone.

An inter-rater reliability study for the rorschach performance assessment system

TL;DR: Overall, the findings indicate good to excellent inter-rater reliability for the great majority of codes and are consistent with previous findings of strong inter- raters reliability for alternative Rorschach systems and scores.

The intra and inter-rater reliability of a modified weight-bearing lunge measure of ankle dorsiflexion

TL;DR: The modified lunge technique demonstrates excellent intra and inter-rater reliability and suitably low ranges of measurement variance, and is deemed to be a good candidate for inclusion in the Olympic Games.
