Plasma membrane and mucosal glycosphingolipids in the rat intestine.

TL;DR: Gas-liquid Chromatographic analysis of sugars in monohexosylceramide, trihexosyceramide and in Complexes 1, 2 and 3 revealed almost identical sugar composition for corresponding membrane and mucosal fractions, therefore membrane glycosphingolipids do not differ substantially from mucosal glycosphers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a human intestinal fucolipid with blood group Lea activity.

TL;DR: A fucolipid that carried human blood group Lea activity was isolated from human small intestine and the following structure is proposed: betaGal ( 1 leads to 3)betaGlcNAc (1 leads to 4)Glc-ceramide alphaFuc (1 leading to 4).
Journal ArticleDOI

The interaction of the K88 antigen with porcine intestinal epithelial cell brush borders

TL;DR: The interaction of 125I-labelled K88 antigen with brush borders of the epithelial cells of the pig small intestine revealed the presence of high affinity receptors, but the non-linearity of the Scatchard plot could be explained by cooperative-like interactions, which view was supported by dissociation experiments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of B and H blood-group active glycosphingolipids from human B erythrocyte membranes

TL;DR: From the data presented the H active substance very probably can be regarded as the immediate precursor of the B-I gly cosphingolipid from human B erythrocyte membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization by mass spectrometry of blood group A active glycolipids from human and dog small intestins.

TL;DR: Without degradative studies the glycolipids were conclusively shown to be hexaglycosyleramides with phytosphingosine as the major long-chain base and hydroxypalmitic acid as themajor fatty acid.

Detection of sugars on paper chromatograms.

W E Trevelyan, +2 more
- 09 Sep 1950 -
TL;DR: Modifications are introduced, based on a test given by Feigl for reducing sugars, which eliminate the heating step, and in which the reagents are applied in organic solvents, thus removing the danger of migration of the sugar spots.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative estimation of sialic acids. II. A colorimetric resorcinol-hydrochloric acid method.

TL;DR: A new method for the quantitive determination of sialic acids is described, which is about 50% more sensitive than the orcinol-hydrochloric acid method generally used and considerably lower with the resorcin reagent.
Journal ArticleDOI

A colorimetric method for the determination of glucosamine and chondrosamine.

TL;DR: The acetylation of glucosamine which yields the Nmonoacetyl derivative, under the conditions described by Zuckerkandl and Messiner-Klebermass does not appear to be quantitative and rapid fading of the colour that develops on the addition of the p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde reagent increases the difficulty of colorimetric estimation.
