Size effects of microplastics on accumulation and elimination of phenanthrene in earthworms
TLDR
The size effects of MPs and their impacts on the accumulation of organic pollutants by terrestrial organisms are highlighted and high-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing indicated that nano-size MPs significantly inhibited phenanthrene-degrading bacteria in earthworms, resulting in the highest residual concentration of Phenanthrene.About:

Interactions between microplastics and soil fauna: A critical review
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose that microplastics are emerging contaminants that cause diverse impacts on soil ecosystems and as integral members of soil food webs, soil fauna exert key ecological functions such as litter decompositions.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors demonstrated that the 0.1 μm microplastic could enter hepatocytes from circulation and result liver damage even at a low concentration, and provided a valuable insight to elucidate the potential risk and mechanism of hepatic toxicity and fibrosis induced by microplastics.

On the Dependency of Cellular Protein Levels on mRNA Abundance.

Are Agricultural Soils Dumps for Microplastics of Urban Origin
TL;DR: It is suggested that widespread application of sewage sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to farmlands is likely to represent a major input of MPs to agricultural soils, with unknown consequences for sustainability and food security.

Microplastic in Terrestrial Ecosystems and the Soil
TL;DR: The lack of knowledge on microplastic in soil is surprising given that the occurrence of larger plastic fragments in soils per se is nothing new, and has in fact been a trait used to describe urban soils or Technosols.
