Biosynthesis and characterization of CdS quantum dots in genetically engineered Escherichia coli.
Congcong Mi,Yanyan Wang,Jingpu Zhang,Huaiqing Huang,Linru Xu,Shuo Wang,Xuexun Fang,Jin Fang,Chuanbin Mao,Shukun Xu +9 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrates that genetically engineered bacteria can be used to synthesize QDs, and these biologically synthesized QDs are expected to be more biocompatible probes in bio-labeling and imaging.

Synthesis and size dependent optical studies in CdSe quantum dots via inverse micelle technique
TL;DR: In this article, Cadmium selenide quantum dots (CdSe QDs) were successfully synthesized without using trioctylphosphine (TOP) capping and the absorption and PL spectra exhibit a strong blue shift as the QDs size decreases due to the quantum confinement effect.

Controlled synthesis of CdSe and CdSe/CdS core/shell nanoparticles using Gemini surfactant Py-16-10-16 and their bioconjugates with BSA
TL;DR: CdSe and CdSe/CdS core/shell nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized by using Gemini surfactant, 1,10-bis(alpha-hexadecyl pyridine) decamethylene dibromide (abbreviated Py-16-10-16), as a soft template were highly luminescent with quantum yields of 18% and 35%, respectively, compared with Rhodamine 6G.

TL;DR: In this article, a simple theoretical model for the LUMO and HOMO of layered crystallites is presented, showing that a small (< 15-angstrom) diameter interior foreign seed causes only small shifts of the lowest excited state, to either higher or lower energies.
