The Anthropic Cosmological Principle
TLDR
In this article, Barrow and Tipler examined the question of Mankind's place in the universe, taking the reader on a tour of many scientific disciplines and offering fascinating insights into issues such as the nature of life, the serach for extraterrestrial intelligence, and the past history and fate of our universe.Abstract:
Is there any connection between the vastness of the universes of stars and galaxies and the existence of life on a small planet out in the suburbs of the Milky Way? This book shows that there is. In their classic work, John Barrow and Frank Tipler examine the question of Mankind's place in the Universe, taking the reader on a tour of many scientific disciplines and offering fascinating insights into issues such as the nature of life, the serach for extraterrestrial intelligence, and the past history and fate of our universe.read more

Stability of certain spatially homogeneous cosmological models
John D. Barrow,David H. Sonoda +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the general behavior of spatially homogeneous cosmological models at large times was investigated using existing techniques from stability theory and it was shown that some known exact solutions are asymptotically stable despite possessing special properties.

Non-Newtonian Gravity, Fluctuative Hypothesis and the Sizes of Astrophysical Structures
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the characteristic sizes of astrophysical and cosmological structures have a phenomenological relation to the microscopic scales whose order of magnitude is essentially ruled by the Compton wavelength of the proton.

Limits to the universality of quantum mechanics
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the bases for the usual beliefs and showed that significant differences do exist between the living organism and the type of system studied successfully in the physics laboratory, and that dealing with living organisms in quantum-mechanical terms with the same degree of rigor as is normal for non-living systems would seem not to be possible without considering also questions of the origins of life and the universe.

From Elemental Carbon to Complex Macromolecular Networks in Space
TL;DR: The aim of the present chapter is to combine, in a tutorial way, the chemical knowledge of elemental carbon forms with the knowledge and hypotheses concerning elemental carbon present in the interstellar medium, from micron-sized grains to nanosized particles and gas-phase molecules.

The System of Interpretance, Naturalizing Meaning as Finality
TL;DR: It is proposed that meanings can be assimilated most generally to final causes and the categories required to understand that process can be used as templates when generalizing to biosemiosis and beyond.
