The Anthropic Cosmological Principle
TLDR
In this article, Barrow and Tipler examined the question of Mankind's place in the universe, taking the reader on a tour of many scientific disciplines and offering fascinating insights into issues such as the nature of life, the serach for extraterrestrial intelligence, and the past history and fate of our universe.Abstract:
Is there any connection between the vastness of the universes of stars and galaxies and the existence of life on a small planet out in the suburbs of the Milky Way? This book shows that there is. In their classic work, John Barrow and Frank Tipler examine the question of Mankind's place in the Universe, taking the reader on a tour of many scientific disciplines and offering fascinating insights into issues such as the nature of life, the serach for extraterrestrial intelligence, and the past history and fate of our universe.read more

A Priori probability distribution of the cosmological constant
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify large classes of theories in which this assumption is justified and show that the a priori probability distribution for the cosmological constant is essentially constant in the very narrow range that is anthropically allowed.

The Evolution of Consciousness as a Planetary Imperative: An Integration of Integral Views
TL;DR: In this paper, an in-depth hermeneutic dialogue between Steiner, Gebser, and Wilber's integral evolutionary narratives is presented, with the aim of deepening understanding of individual works and the relationships among them.

Précis of The Emperor's New Mind: Concerning computers, minds, and the laws of physics
TL;DR: A welding method and means is disclosed utilizing a conductive foil disposed between or adjacent members to be welded together with the foil serving as one electrode and one or both of the members serving as another electrode of the welding circuit.

Solutions to the quasi-flatness and quasi-lambda problems
John D. Barrow,João Magueijo +1 more
TL;DR: The quasi-flatness problem was introduced in this article, where theories incorporating time-varying coupling constants could drive the universe to a late-time near-flat attractor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Axions as quintessence in string theory
TL;DR: In this article, a model of axion monodromy based on the axion quintessence in string theory is proposed, in which axions are broken by the presence of 5-branes placed in highly warped throats, and the resulting time dependence in the equation of state of dark energy is detectable.
