This chapter focuses on the creation of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and how this new formation set about institutionalizing a global AIDS perspective. The chapter considers the main motivations behind this creation, which included the need to create a coherent and shared understanding of HIV, together with a coordinated policy framework to bring together different technical and political capacities for coherent policy intervention in multiple country contexts. The chapter argues that this process of creating a shared understanding of expected outcomes led to a shared understanding of the disease laying the foundations for the politics of Global AIDS.read more

TL;DR: Community- versus facility-based models of ART delivery resulted in at least comparable outcomes for clinically stable HIV-infected patients on treatment in LMICs and are likely to be cost-effective.

Status and methodology of publicly available national HIV care continua and 90-90-90 targets: A systematic review
TL;DR: Relatively few complete national continua of care are available in the public domain, and there is considerable variation in the methods for determining progress towards the 90-90-90 target.

TL;DR: In the recruited sample of mostly current injectors with a long duration of injecting drug use, seroprevalence for HIV and HCV varied greatly between the city samples, demonstrating the necessity of intensified prevention strategies for blood-borne infections among PWID in Germany.

Minimizing fungal disease deaths will allow the UNAIDS target of reducing annual AIDS deaths below 500 000 by 2020 to be realized
TL;DR: Action could and should be taken by donors, national and international public health agencies, NGOs and governments to achieve the UNAIDS mortality reduction target, by scaling up capability to detect and treat fungal disease in AIDS.

TL;DR: Interviews with participants and providers in a Phase IIb study evaluating an injectable LA regimen in the U.S. and Spain found that LA was seen as preferable to daily oral ART among PLHIV and appropriate candidates were needed, including with women and “non-adherent” populations across settings.

The Culture of Public Problems: Drinking-Driving and the Symbolic Order
