The Paxon parliament's protocol provides a new way of implementing the state machine approach to the design of distributed systems.Abstract:
Recent archaeological discoveries on the island of Paxos reveal that the parliament functioned despite the peripatetic propensity of its part-time legislators. The legislators maintained consistent copies of the parliamentary record, despite their frequent forays from the chamber and the forgetfulness of their messengers. The Paxon parliament's protocol provides a new way of implementing the state machine approach to the design of distributed systems.read more

Mystiko—Blockchain Meets Big Data
Eranga Bandara,Wee Keong Ng,Kasun De Zoysa,Newton Fernando,Supun Tharaka,P. Maurakirinathan,Namal Jayasuriya +6 more
TL;DR: This research proposes a new blockchain storage "Mystiko" that is built over the Apache Cassandra distributed database to incorporate big data and makes big data more secure, structured and meaningful, and allows further data analytics on big data to be more easily performed.
Shared Memory vs Message Passing
TL;DR: Various fundamental distributed computing abstractions, including shared memory, consensus, as well as terminating reliable broadcast, are, in a precise sense, equivalent.

What’s So Different about Blockchain? — Blockchain is a Probabilistic State Machine
Kenji Saito,Hiroyuki Yamada +1 more
TL;DR: This work shows that blockchain is a probabilistic state machine in which participants can never commit on decisions, and shows that this Probabilistic nature is necessarily deduced from the condition where the number of participants remains unknown.

Influence of Blockchain Technology in Manufacturing Supply Chain and Logistics
TL;DR: In this article , the authors provide a comprehensive overview of the role of blockchain technology in addressing supply chain and logistics-related challenges by analyzing, organizing, and reviewing the literature, and show that blockchain technology can transform the supply-chain and logistics into secure, agile, trusted, and transparent functions.

Cloud-native database systems at Alibaba: opportunities and challenges
TL;DR: This research presents a meta-modelling architecture that automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-heavy and therefore expensive and expensive process of manually cataloging and updating data in a cloud-native database.

Time, clocks, and the ordering of events in a distributed system
TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of one event happening before another in a distributed system is examined, and a distributed algorithm is given for synchronizing a system of logical clocks which can be used to totally order the events.

Impossibility of distributed consensus with one faulty process
TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that every protocol for this problem has the possibility of nontermination, even with only one faulty process.

Concurrency Control and Recovery in Database Systems
TL;DR: In this article, the design and implementation of concurrency control and recovery mechanisms for transaction management in centralized and distributed database systems is described. But this can lead to interference between queries and updates.

Implementing fault-tolerant services using the state machine approach: a tutorial
TL;DR: The state machine approach is a general method for implementing fault-tolerant services in distributed systems and protocols for two different failure models—Byzantine and fail stop are described.
