In this article, we summarize the 5G mobile communication requirements and challenges. First, essential requirements for 5G are pointed out, including higher traffic volume, indoor or hotspot traffic, and spectrum, energy, and cost efficiency. Along with these changes of requirements, we present a potential step change for the evolution toward 5G, which shows that macro-local coexisting and coordinating paths will replace one macro-dominated path as in 4G and before. We hereafter discuss emerging technologies for 5G within international mobile telecommunications. Challenges and directions in hardware, including integrated circuits and passive components, are also discussed. Finally, a whole picture for the evolution to 5G is predicted and presented.read more

TL;DR: A basic OFDM system is described and spectrum characteristic and BER performance of UFMC, FBMC, and W-OFDM systems under the nonlinear high power amplifier(HPA) environment are similar to each other.
Multi-Beams Waveguide Slot Antennas at X-Band for Wireless Communications Systems
TL;DR: In this article, the design of a multibeams antenna using waveguide slots technology at Xband was studied, where the multi-beams radiation is proposed to expand the coverage of the single antenna, thus more capacity is enabled.

Sustainable Wireless Delivery for HD-Video Streaming via Short Fountain-Code Assisted UDP
TL;DR: In this paper , a short fountain-code assisted UDP scheme for sustainable wireless HD-video streaming is proposed, where the authors develop a new degree distribution for constructing short fountain codes in contrast to the classic soliton distribution typically fitting long code length, and thus lowering the delay and complexity for decoding.
