In this paper, the authors present density as a function of temperature, melting temperatures, glass transition temperatures, decomposition temperatures, and heat capacities for 13 ionic liquids, including 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate.
Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) are salts that are liquid at low temperatures, usually including the region around room temperature. They are under intense investigation, especially as replacement solvents for reactions and separations, since they exhibit negligible vapor pressure and would not, therefore, contribute to air pollution. Clearly, basic thermophysical properties are vital for design and evaluation for these applications. We present density as a function of temperature, melting temperatures, glass-transition temperatures, decomposition temperatures, and heat capacities as a function of temperature for a series of 13 of the popular imidazolium-based ILs. The ionic liquids investigated here are 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tris(trifluoromethylsul...

Radiation induced physicochemical changes in FAP (fluoro alkyl phosphate) based imidazolium ionic liquids and their mechanistic pathways: influence of hydroxyl group functionalization of the cation.

TL;DR: It is clearly demonstrated that a simple functionalization of the molecular structure of the FAP based imidazolium ILs might cause marked differences in the reactivity, reaction center and the nature of the radiolytic products, which eventually lead to significant changes in their physicochemical properties.

Study on imidazolium-based ionic liquids with scanning atom probe and Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry

TL;DR: In this paper, scan atom probe (SAP) and Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry (KEMS) were used to investigate several imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) of the form [R][Tf2N], where [R] can be one of the three cations, [emim], [bmim], and [hmim] is the anion of N(SO2CF3)2.

Evaluation of ionic liquids as replacements for the solid piston in conventional hydrogen reciprocating compressors: A review

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive study to find the most appropriate ionic liquid candidate to replace the solid piston in reciprocating compressors for compressing hydrogen is reported, and specific criteria concerning the applications of ionic liquids are determined and the roles of the cations and anions, as well as the effect of temperature, are extensively reviewed to identify the most suitable ionic fluid that can fulfill the requirements.
