TL;DR: Substantial agreement was found among a large, interdisciplinary cohort of international experts regarding evidence supporting recommendations, and the remaining literature gaps in the assessment, prevention, and treatment of Pain, Agitation/sedation, Delirium, Immobility (mobilization/rehabilitation), and Sleep (disruption) in critically ill adults.

The Effect of Cold Application in Combination with Standard Analgesic Administration on Pain and Anxiety during Chest Tube Removal: A Single-Blinded, Randomized, Double-Controlled Study
Yurdanur Demir,Leyla Khorshid +1 more
TL;DR: Cold application reduced patients' intensity of pain due to CTR but did not affect anxiety levels or the type of pain, and cold application is recommended as a pain-relieving technique during CTR.

Monoterpenoids induce agonist-specific desensitization of transient receptor potential vanilloid-3 (TRPV3) ion channels.
Muhammad Azhar Sherkheli,Heike Benecke,Julia F. Doerner,Olaf Kletke,Angela K. Vogt-Eisele,Guenter Gisselmann,Hanns Hatt +6 more
TL;DR: The finding on agonist-induced desensitization of TRPV3 by some monoterpenoids displays a novel mechanism through which TRP channels could be functionally modulated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Ice Packs Application and Relaxation Therapy in Pain Reduction during Chest Tube Removal Following Cardiac Surgery
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the effects of cold therapy and relaxation on pain of chest tube removal in 80 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery in the heart hospital of Sari-Iran.

Graphic representation of pain.
Jane Scott,E. C. Huskisson +1 more
TL;DR: Most patients could readily use visual analogue and graphic rating scales despite having no previous experience and use of these scales is the best available method for measuring pain or pain relief.

Miller's Anesthesia
TL;DR: State-of-the-art coverage of anesthetic drugs, guidelines for anesthetic practice and patient safety, new techniques, step-by-step instructions for patient management, the unique needs of pediatric patients, and much more - all highlighted by more than 1,500 full-color illustrations for enhanced visual clarity.

Prospective validation of clinically important changes in pain severity measured on a visual analog scale.
TL;DR: Data from a prospective, observational cohort study of adults presenting to 2 urban emergency departments with pain are virtually identical to previous findings indicating that a difference of 13 mm on a VAS represents the minimum change in acute pain that is clinically significant.

The visual analog scale in the immediate postoperative period : Intrasubject variability and correlation with a numeric scale
TL;DR: It is concluded that any single VAS score in the immediate postoperative period should be considered to have an imprecision of +/- 20 mm, and the visual analog scale was developed for assessing chronic pain but is often used in studies of postoperative pain.

Clinically significant changes in pain along the visual analog scale
Steven B. Bird,Eric W. Dickson +1 more
TL;DR: Patients with greater pain require a greater change in VAS score to achieve clinically significant pain relief, according to the hypothesis that the change in visual analog scale (VAS) associated with a clinically significant change in pain is related to the initial VAS Score.
