GLRB allelic variation associated with agoraphobic cognitions, increased startle response and fear network activation: a potential neurogenetic pathway to panic disorder

TL;DR: The genome-wide association study with a dimensional, PD/AG-related anxiety phenotype based on the Agoraphobia Cognition Questionnaire provides evidence that non-coding, although functional GLRB gene polymorphisms may predispose to PD by increasing startle response and agoraphobic cognitions.
Journal ArticleDOI
End-tidal pCO2 in blood phobics during viewing of emotion- and disease-related films.
TL;DR: Hyperventilation is part of the fear response of patients with BII phobia, but was transitory in experimental fear induction using surgery films, and its role in real-life exposure and fainting deserves further study.
Journal ArticleDOI
The impact of visual flow stimulation on anxiety, dizziness, and body sway in individuals with and without fear of heights
TL;DR: Merely receiving visual balance information contradictory to somatosensory balance information is sufficient to induce anxiety, dizziness, and body sway in individuals with fear of heights, suggesting an underlying balance dysfunction may contribute to the development of height phobia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-wide association study of panic disorder reveals genetic overlap with neuroticism and depression.

TL;DR: The present integrative analysis represents a major step towards the elucidation of the genetic susceptibility to PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Timing matters: change depends on the stage of treatment in cognitive behavioral therapy for panic disorder with agoraphobia.
Andrew T. Gloster,Jens Klotsche,Alexander L. Gerlach,Alfons O. Hamm,Andreas Ströhle,Siegried Gauggel,Tilo Kircher,Georg W. Alpers,Jürgen Deckert,Hans-Ulrich Wittchen +9 more
TL;DR: The effects of process variables on outcomes differ across treatment phases and outcomes (i.e., symptomatology vs. functioning).
