James,Sergei Karpov,Paul Kugrens,J. C. Krug,Christopher E. Lane,Louise A. Lewis,Jean Lodge,Denis H. Lynn,David G. Mann,Richard M. McCourt,Leonel Mendoza,Øjvind Moestrup,Sharon E. Mozley-Standridge,Thomas A. Nerad,Carol A. Shearer,Alexey V. Smirnov,Frederick W. Spiegel,“Max” F. J. R. Taylor +27 more
TL;DR: This revision of the classification of unicellular eukaryotes updates that of Levine et al. (1980) for the protozoa and expands it to include other protists, and proposes a scheme that is based on nameless ranked systematics.
Journal ArticleDOI
The revised classification of eukaryotes
Sina M. Adl,Sina M. Adl,Alastair G. B. Simpson,Christopher E. Lane,Julius Lukeš,David Bass,Samuel S. Bowser,Matthew Brown,Fabien Burki,Micah Dunthorn,Vladimír Hampl,Aaron A. Mozley‐Stanridge,Laura Wegener Parfrey,Jan Pawlowski,Sonja Rueckert,Laura Shadwick,Conrad L. Schoch,Alexey V. Smirnov,Frederick W. Spiegel +25 more
TL;DR: This revision of the classification of eukaryotes retains an emphasis on the protists and incorporates changes since 2005 that have resolved nodes and branches in phylogenetic trees.
Journal ArticleDOI
Revisions to the Classification, Nomenclature, and Diversity of Eukaryotes

TL;DR: It is confirmed that eukaryotes form at least two domains, the loss of monophyly in the Excavata, robust support for the Haptista and Cryptista, and suggested primer sets for DNA sequences from environmental samples that are effective for each clade are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
CBOL Protist Working Group: Barcoding Eukaryotic Richness beyond the Animal, Plant, and Fungal Kingdoms

TL;DR: A group of protist experts proposes a two-step DNA barcoding approach, comprising a universal eukaryotic pre-barcode followed by group-specific barcodes, to unveil the hidden biodiversity of microbial Eukaryotes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diversity, nomenclature, and taxonomy of protists.

TL;DR: Evaluating placental inter-ordinal phylogenies with novel sequences including RAG1, γ -fibrinogen, ND6, and mt-tRNA, plus MCMC-driven nucleotide, amino acid, and codon models, plus a phylogenetic foundation for comparative mammalian genomics is evaluated.
