Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanisms of aging in senescence-accelerated mice

TL;DR: It is shown that combining the study of inbred mouse strains with interesting traits and gene-expression profiling can lead to the discovery of genes important for complex phenotypes, including a mutation in a fibroblast growth factor gene, Fgf1, and a mutations in and ectopic expression of the gene for the chemokine CCL19, which is involved in the inflammatory response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary Nutrient Intake and Progression to Late Age-Related Macular Degeneration in the Age-Related Eye Disease Studies 1 and 2.

TL;DR: Higher dietary intake of multiple nutrients, including minerals, vitamins, and carotenoids, is associated with decreased risk of progression to late AMD, and these associations are stronger for GA, for which no treatments are available, than for neovascular AMD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Retinitis Pigmentosa GTPase Regulator (RPGR) protein isoforms in mammalian retina: insights into X-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa and associated ciliopathies.

TL;DR: It is shown that RPGR isoforms localize to distinct sub-cellular compartments in mammalian photoreceptors and associate with a number of cilia-centrosomal proteins.
