Journal ArticleDOI
Mass‐flowering crops dilute pollinator abundance in agricultural landscapes across Europe
Andrea Holzschuh,Matteo Dainese,Juan P. González-Varo,Sonja Mudri-Stojnic,Verena Riedinger,Maj Rundlöf,Jeroen Scheper,Jennifer B. Wickens,Victoria J. Wickens,Riccardo Bommarco,David Kleijn,Simon G. Potts,Stuart P. M. Roberts,Henrik G. Smith,Montserrat Vilà,Ante Vujić,Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter +16 more
TL;DR: Although MFC fields apparently attracted pollinators from SNHs, in landscapes with large areas of MFCs they became diluted, and the resulting lower densities might negatively affect yields of pollinator‐dependent crops and the reproductive success of wild plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecological networks are more sensitive to plant than to animal extinction under climate change
Matthias Schleuning,Jochen Fründ,Jochen Fründ,Oliver Schweiger,Erik Welk,Jörg Albrecht,Jörg Albrecht,Matthias Albrecht,Marion Beil,Gita Benadi,Nico Blüthgen,Helge Bruelheide,Katrin Böhning-Gaese,D. Weiner,Martin Wiemers,Christian Hof +33 more
TL;DR: It is discovered that animal species that interact with a low diversity of plant species have narrow climatic niches and are most vulnerable to climate change.
Journal ArticleDOI
International scientists formulate a roadmap for insect conservation and recovery
Jeffrey A. Harvey,Robin Heinen,Inge Armbrecht,Yves Basset,James Baxter-Gilbert,T. Martijn Bezemer,Monika Böhm,Riccardo Bommarco,Paulo A. V. Borges,Pedro Cardoso,Viola Clausnitzer,Tara M. TL;DR: A global ‘roadmap’ for insect conservation and recovery is proposed that entails the immediate implementation of several ‘no-regret’ measures that will act to slow or stop insect declines.
Data from: Mass-flowering crops dilute pollinator abundance in agricultural landscapes across Europe
Andrea Holzschuh,Matteo Dainese,Juan P. González-Varo,Verena Riedinger,Sonja Mudri-Stojnic,Maj Rundlöf,Jeroen Scheper,Jennifer B. Wickens,Victoria J. Wickens,Riccardo Bommarco,David Kleijn,Simon G. Potts,Stuart P. M. Roberts,Henrik G. Smith,Montserrat Vilà,Ante Vujić,Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed how landscape-scale cover of MFCs affected pollinator densities in 408 MFC fields and adjacent semi-natural habitats (SNHs).
Journal ArticleDOI
COI barcodes for identification of Merodon hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) of Lesvos Island, Greece.
Gunilla Ståhls,Ante Vujić,Celeste Pérez-Bañón,Snezana Radenkovic,Santos Rojo,Theodora Petanidou +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used COI barcoding to identify 22 species of the hoverfly genus Merodon (Diptera, Syrphidae) occurring on Lesvos island (Greece).
