Journal ArticleDOI
Reciprocal coupling of coagulation and innate immunity via neutrophil serine proteases
Steffen Massberg,Lenka Grahl,Marie-Luise von Bruehl,Davit Manukyan,Susanne Pfeiler,Christian Goosmann,Volker Brinkmann,Michael Lorenz,Kiril Bidzhekov,Avinash Khandagale,Ildiko Konrad,Elisabeth Kennerknecht,Katja Reges,Stefan Holdenrieder,Siegmund Braun,Christoph Reinhardt,Michael Spannagl,Klaus T. Preissner,Bernd Engelmann +18 more
TL;DR: The ability of coagulation to suppress pathogen dissemination indicates that microvessel thrombosis represents a physiological tool of host defense, although the molecular determinants and in vivo significance of this association remain unclear.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protein disulfide isomerase acts as an injury response signal that enhances fibrin generation via tissue factor activation
Christoph Reinhardt,Marie Luise Von Brühl,Davit Manukyan,Lenka Grahl,Michael Lorenz,Berid Altmann,Silke Dlugai,Sonja Hess,Ildiko Konrad,Lena Orschiedt,Nigel Mackman,Lloyd Ruddock,Steffen Massberg,Bernd Engelmann +13 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the oxidoreductase protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) directly promotes TF-dependent fibrin production during thrombus formation in vivo, and it is proposed that reduced PDI activates TF by isomerization of a mixeddisulfide and a free thiol to an intramolecular disulfides.
Journal ArticleDOI
Current concepts in chronic inflammatory diseases: Interactions between microbes, cellular metabolism, and inflammation
Holger Garn,Sabine Bahn,Bernhard T. Baune,Elisabeth B. Binder,Hans Bisgaard,Talal A. Chatila,Triantafyllos Chavakis,Carsten Culmsee,Udo Dannlowski,Udo Dannlowski,James E. Gern,Tari Haahtela,Tilo Kircher,Ulf Müller-Ladner,Markus F. Neurath,Klaus T. Preissner,Christoph Reinhardt,Graham A. W. Rook,Shannon L. Russell,Bernd Schmeck,Thaddeus S. Stappenbeck,Ulrich Steinhoff,Jim van Os,Scott T. Weiss,Michael Zemlin,Harald Renz +25 more
TL;DR: The aim of the International von-Behring-Röntgen Symposium was to discuss recent developments in this field, which include a concept of biodiversity; the contribution of urbanization, lifestyle factors, and nutrition; and new mechanisms of metabolic and immune dysregulation, such as extracellular and intracellular RNAs and cellular and mitochondrial stress.
Book ChapterDOI
The Role of Coagulation Factor Signaling in Angiogenesis and Vascular Remodeling
TL;DR: The current view of the hemostatic system with focus on the coagulation cascade as a serine protease network will be delineated and the activation mechanism of PARs is explained, and this chapter aims to provide an overview on how coagulations factor signaling is involved in physiologic and pathologic processes.
