Wilson,Sekar Kathiresan,Sekar Kathiresan,Sekar Kathiresan +24 more
TL;DR: A limited number of null/damaging alleles with a large effect on cardiovascular traits were detectable in ≈3000 black individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rare variant associations with waist-to-hip ratio in European-American and African-American women from the NHLBI-Exome Sequencing Project
Mengyuan Kan,Paul L. Auer,Paul L. Auer,Gao Wang,Kristine L. Bucasas,Stanley Hooker,Alejandra Rodriguez,Alejandra Rodriguez,Biao Li,Jaclyn Ellis,L. Adrienne Cupples,L. Abecasis,Stacey Gabriel,Michael J. Bamshad,David Altshuler,Deborah A. Nickerson,Kari E. North,Leslie A. Lange,Alexander P. Reiner,Alexander P. Reiner,Suzanne M. Leal +42 more
TL;DR: This study indicates that the combined effect of rare variants contribute to the inter-individual variation in fat distribution through the regulation of insulin response.
Book ChapterDOI
Isolation and characterization of immune cells from the tumor microenvironment of genetically engineered pediatric high-grade glioma models using the sleeping beauty transposon system.
Maria B. Garcia-Fabiani,Andrea Comba,Padma Kadiyala,Santiago Haase,Felipe J Nunez,David Altshuler,Pedro R. Lowenstein,Maria G. Castro +7 more
TL;DR: This chapter describes a method to isolate two cell populations from tumors generated in situ in mice, i.e., one population enriched in tumor cells and anotherpopulation enriched in CD45+ cells, and methodologies as to how tumor infiltrating immune cells can be phenotypically characterized using flow cytometry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome Sequencing of Multiple Primary Tumors Reveals a Novel PALB2 Variant
Kasmintan A. Schrader,Kelly L. Stratton,Rajmohan Murali,Yael Laitman,Luca Cavallone,Lily Offit,Yong Hannah Wen,Tinu Thomas,Sohela Shah,Rohini Rau-Murthy,Christopher Manschreck,Erin E. Salo-Mullen,Ebun Otegbeye,Marina Corines,Liying Zhang,Larry Norton,Clifford A. Hudis,Robert J. Klein,Noah D. Kauff,Mark E. Robson,Zsofia K. Stadler,Daniel A. Haber,Steven M. Lipkin,Eitan Friedman,William D. Foulkes,David Altshuler,Joseph Vijai,Kenneth Offit +27 more
TL;DR: PALB2 acts in the double-strand DNA break repair pathway recruiting RAD51 and BRCA2 to DNA breaks via its WD40 domain, and founder and recurrent mutations in PALB2 have been identified in several populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular ablation of tumor blood vessels inhibits therapeutic effects of radiation and bevacizumab.
Viveka Nand Yadav,David Altshuler,Padma Kadiyala,Daniel Zamler,Andrea Comba,Henry D. Appelman,Patrick Dunn,Carl Koschmann,Maria G. Castro,Pedro R. Lowenstein +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that, in this model, the integrity of proliferating vessels is necessary for the antiglioma effects of anti-VEGF and radiation therapy, and elimination of microvascular proliferation decreased the efficacy of anti -VEGF or irradiation therapy.
