Journal ArticleDOI
Total Fluid Intake and Use of Individual Beverages and Risk of Renal Cell Cancer in Two Large Cohorts
Jung Eun Lee,Edward Giovannucci,Stephanie A. Smith-Warner,Donna Spiegelman,Walter C. Willett,Gary C. Curhan +5 more
TL;DR: The data suggest an inverse association between alcohol intake and risk of renal cell cancer, but do not support the hypothesis that greater total fluid intake reduces the risk of kidney cell cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Body mass index and Barrett’s oesophagus in women
TL;DR: Obese, but not overweight, women appear to be at increased risk for Barrett’s oesophagus among women and when controlling for symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux, and among the entire Nurses’ Health Study cohort regardless of a history of endoscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variations in Plasma Lycopene and Specific Isomers over Time in a Cohort of U.S. Men
Kana Wu,Steven J. Schwartz,Elizabeth A. Platz,Steven K. Clinton,John W. Erdman,Mario G. Ferruzzi,Walter C. Willett,Edward Giovannucci +7 more
TL;DR: Plasma concentrations of total lycopene and its most abundant isomers in samples taken 3-4 y apart were strongly correlated, indicating that dietary patterns and metabolic processes defining lycopenes concentrations are stable over time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common Polymorphisms in the Adiponectin and Its Receptor Genes, Adiponectin Levels and the Risk of Prostate Cancer
Preet K. Dhillon,Kathryn L. Penney,Fredrick R. Schumacher,Jennifer R. Rider,Howard D. Sesso,Michael Pollak,Michelangelo Fiorentino,Stephen P. Finn,Massimo Loda,Nader Rifai,Lorelei A. Mucci,Edward Giovannucci,Meir J. Stampfer,Jing Ma +13 more
TL;DR: These genotype–phenotype associations support the biological relevance of adiponectin for prostate carcinogenesis, particularly in earlier stages of development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calcium intake and colorectal cancer risk: Results from the nurses' health study and health professionals follow‐up study
Xuehong Zhang,NaNa Keum,Kana Wu,Stephanie A. Smith-Warner,Shuji Ogino,Andrew T. Chan,Charles S. Fuchs,Edward Giovannucci +7 more
TL;DR: Overall inverse association was linear and did not differ by intake source, and calcium intake approximately 10 years before diagnosis appeared to be associated with a lower risk of CRC.
