Comparison of risk factors for colon and rectal cancer
Esther K. Wei,Edward Giovannucci,Edward Giovannucci,Kana Wu,Bernard Rosner,Bernard Rosner,Charles S. Fuchs,Charles S. Fuchs,Walter C. Willett,Walter C. Willett,Graham A. Colditz,Graham A. Colditz +11 more
TL;DR: The findings support previous suggestions that family history and physical activity are not strong contributors to the etiology of rectal cancer and should take into consideration risk factor differences by subsite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dairy foods, calcium, and colorectal cancer: a pooled analysis of 10 cohort studies.
Eunyoung Cho,Stephanie A. Smith-Warner,Stephanie A. Smith-Warner,Donna Spiegelman,W. Lawrence Beeson,Piet A. van den Brandt,Graham A. Colditz,Aaron R. Folsom,Gary E. Fraser,Jo L. Freudenheim,Edward Giovannucci,R. Alexandra Goldbohm,Saxon Graham,Anthony B. Miller,Pirjo Pietinen,John D. Potter,Thomas E. Rohan,Paul Terry,Paolo Toniolo,Mikko J. Virtanen,Walter C. Willett,Alicja Wolk,Kana Wu,Shiaw-Shyuan Yaun,Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte,David J. Hunter +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that higher consumption of milk and calcium is associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer, and the inverse association for milk was limited to cancers of the distal colon and rectum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Study of Prediagnostic Selenium Level in Toenails and the Risk of Advanced Prostate Cancer
Kazuko Yoshizawa,Walter C. Willett,Steven Morris,Meir J. Stampfer,Donna Spiegelman,Eric B. Rimm,Edward Giovannucci +6 more
TL;DR: The results support earlier findings that higher selenium intakes may reduce the risk of prostate cancer and further prospective studies and randomized trials of this relationship should be conducted.
Journal Article
A Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Polymorphism and the Risk of Colorectal Cancer
Jia Chen,Edward Giovannucci,Karl T. Kelsey,Eric B. Rimm,Meir J. Stampfer,Graham A. Colditz,Donna Spiegelman,Walter C. Willett,David J. Hunter +8 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that dietary methyl supply is particularly critical among MTHFR val/val individuals, probably because higher levels of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate may prevent imbalances of nucleotide pools during DNA synthesis when alcohol consumption is depleted, leading to potentially oncogenic alterations in DNA methylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A prospective study of social networks in relation to total mortality and cardiovascular disease in men in the USA.
Ichiro Kawachi,Graham A. Colditz,Alberto Ascherio,Eric B. Rimm,Edward Giovannucci,Meir J. Stampfer,Walter C. Willett +6 more
TL;DR: Social networks were associated with lower total mortality by reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and accidents/suicides, as well as cardiovascular disease incidence.
