The LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey. I. Survey description and preliminary data release

Timothy W. Shimwell, +85 more
TL;DR: The LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) as mentioned in this paper is a deep 120-168 MHz imaging survey that will eventually cover the entire northern sky, where each of the 3170 pointings will be observed for 8 h, which, at most declinations, is sufficient to produce ~5? resolution images with a sensitivity of ~100?Jy/beam and accomplish the main scientific aims of the survey, which are to explore the formation and evolution of massive black holes, galaxies, clusters of galaxies and large-scale structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

The LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey - II. First data release

Timothy W. Shimwell, +124 more
TL;DR: The LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) is an ongoing sensitive, high-resolution 120-168 MHz survey of the entire northern sky for which observations are now 20% complete as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

LOFAR facet calibration

TL;DR: In this article, a new calibration scheme, which is called facet calibration, is presented to obtain deep high-resolution LOFAR High Band Antenna images using the Dutch part of the array.
Journal ArticleDOI

Initial deep LOFAR observations of epoch of reionization windows. I. The north celestial pole

Sarod Yatawatta, +105 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present results from observations of the NCP window using the LOFAR highband antenna (HBA) array in the frequency range 115 MHz to 163 MHz.
Journal ArticleDOI

LOFAR facet calibration

TL;DR: In this paper, a new calibration scheme, which is named facet calibration, was proposed to obtain deep high-resolution LOFAR High Band Antenna images using the Dutch part of the array.
