beta PP and Tau interaction. A possible link between amyloid and neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer's disease.
Giorgio Giaccone,Barbara Pedrotti,Antonio Migheli,Laura Verga,J. Perez,Giorgio Racagni,Mark A. Smith,George Perry,L. De Gioia,C. Selvaggini,Mario Salmona,Jorge Ghiso,B. Frangione,Khalid Islam,Orso Bugiani,Fabrizio Tagliavini +15 more
TL;DR: Solid phase immunoassay showed that a peptide homologous to residues 713 to 730 of beta PP770 bound tau proteins spontaneously formed fibrils in vitro and, in the presence of tau, generated dense fibrillary assemblies containing both molecules, suggesting that beta PP or beta PP fragments containing the tau binding site are involved in the pathogenesis of PHFs in Alzheimer's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frontotemporal lobar degeneration: old knowledge and new insight into the pathogenetic mechanisms of tau mutations
TL;DR: The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying tau mutations are reviewed, focusing on the less common aspects, so far poorly investigated, which suggest novel pathological features, such as a tendency to form oligomeric rather than fibrillar aggregates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progranulin plasma levels predict the presence of GRN mutations in asymptomatic subjects and do not correlate with brain atrophy: results from the GENFI study.
Daniela Galimberti,Daniela Galimberti,Giorgio G. Fumagalli,Giorgio G. Fumagalli,Giorgio G. Fumagalli,Chiara Fenoglio,Chiara Fenoglio,Sara M G Cioffi,Sara M G Cioffi,Andrea Arighi,Andrea Arighi,Maria Serpente,Maria Serpente,Barbara Borroni,Alessandro Padovani,Fabrizio Tagliavini,Mario Masellis,Maria Carmela Tartaglia,John C. van Swieten,Lieke H.H. Meeter,Caroline Graff,Alexandre de Mendonça,Martina Bocchetta,Jonathan D. Rohrer,Elio Scarpini,Elio Scarpini +25 more
TL;DR: Plasma progranulin levels predict the presence of GRN null mutations independent of proximity to symptoms and brain atrophy, and correlations were found between age, years from average age at onset in each family, or TMEM106B rs1990622 genotype (p > 0.05).
Journal ArticleDOI
The Central Biobank and Virtual Biobank of BIOMARKAPD: A Resource for Studies on Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Verbeek,Frans R.J. Verhey,Marzena Zboch,Bengt Winblad,Philip Scheltens,Henrik Zetterberg,Henrik Zetterberg,Pieter Jelle Visser,Pieter Jelle Visser +41 more
TL;DR: A central and a virtual biobank for body fluids and associated data from subjects with neurodegenerative diseases have been established to support the validation of novel biomarkers and assays.
Journal ArticleDOI
Therapy in prion diseases.
TL;DR: Early diagnosis allowing to treat at risk population in a preclinical stage represent the more realistic perspective for efficient TSE therapy.
