Effect of Robotic-Assisted vs Conventional Laparoscopic Surgery on Risk of Conversion to Open Laparotomy Among Patients Undergoing Resection for Rectal Cancer: The ROLARR Randomized Clinical Trial.
David Jayne,Alessio Pigazzi,Helen Marshall,Julie Croft,Neil Corrigan,Joanne Copeland,Phil Quirke,Nicholas P. West,Tero Rautio,Niels Thomassen,Henry S Tilney,Mark Gudgeon,Paolo Bianchi,Richard Edlin,Claire Hulme,Julia Brown +15 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, when performed by surgeons with varying experience with robotic surgery, does not confer an advantage in rectal cancer resection.
Journal ArticleDOI
A gene encoding a transmembrane protein is mutated in patients with diabetes mellitus and optic atrophy (Wolfram syndrome)
Hiroshi Inoue,Yukio Tanizawa,Jon Wasson,Philip Behn,Kamini Kalidas,Ernesto Bernal-Mizrachi,Mike Mueckler,Helen Marshall,Helen Donis-Keller,Patricia Crock,Douglas Rogers,Masahiko Mikuni,Hisashi Kumashiro,Koichiro Higashi,Gen Sobue,Yoshitomo Oka,M. Alan Permutt +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors localized the Wolfram syndrome (WFS) gene to a BAC/P1 contig of less than 250 kb and found that mutations in a novel gene encoding a putative transmembrane protein were associated with the disease phenotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breast-Cancer Adjuvant Therapy with Zoledronic Acid
Robert E. Coleman,Helen Marshall,David Cameron,D. Dodwell,Roger Burkinshaw,M. Keane,M. Gil,Stephen Houston,Robert Grieve,Peter Barrett-Lee,Diana Ritchie,Julia Pugh,Claire Gaunt,Una Rea,Jennifer Peterson,Claire Davies,Victoria Hiley,Walter M Gregory,Richard Bell +18 more
TL;DR: The routine use of zoledronic acid in the adjuvant management of breast cancer is not supported, and a prespecified boundary for lack of benefit had been crossed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Susceptibility Locus for Alzheimer's Disease on Chromosome 10
Amanda J. Myers,Peter Holmans,Helen Marshall,Jennifer M. Kwon,David R. Meyer,Dzanan Ramic,Shantia Shears,Jeremy Booth,Fabienne Wavrant DeVrieze,Richard Crook,Marian L. Hamshere,Richard Abraham,Nigel Tunstall,F Rice,Stephanie Carty,Sara Lillystone,Patrick G. Kehoe,Varuni Rudrasingham,Lesley Jones,Simon Lovestone,Jordi Pérez-Tur,Julie Williams,Michael John Owen,John Hardy,Alison Goate +24 more
TL;DR: Evidence for an Alzheimer's disease locus on chromosome 10 close to D10S1225 is reported, which modifies risk for Alzheimer’s disease independent of APOE genotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Panitumumab and irinotecan versus irinotecan alone for patients with KRAS wild-type, fluorouracil-resistant advanced colorectal cancer (PICCOLO): a prospectively stratified randomised trial.
Matthew T. Seymour,Sarah Brown,Gary Middleton,Tim Maughan,Susan D. Richman,Stephen J. Gwyther,Catherine Lowe,Jennifer F Seligmann,Jonathan Wadsley,Nick Maisey,Ian Chau,Mark A. Hill,Lesley Dawson,Stephen Falk,Ann O'Callaghan,Kim Benstead,Philip A. Chambers,Alfred Oliver,Helen Marshall,Vicky Napp,Phil Quirke +20 more
TL;DR: Adding panitumumab to irinotecan did not improve the overall survival of patients with wild-type KRAS tumours, and further refinement of molecular selection is needed for substantial benefits to be derived from EGFR targeting agents.
