Aggregation-Induced Emission: Together We Shine, United We Soar!

Luminogenic materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) attributes have attracted much interest since the debut of the AIE concept in 2001. In this critical review, recent progress in the area of AIE research is summarized. Typical examples of AIE systems are discussed, from which their structure–property relationships are derived. Through mechanistic decipherment of the photophysical processes, structural design strategies for generating new AIE luminogens are developed. Technological, especially optoelectronic and biological, applications of the AIE systems are exemplified to illustrate how the novel AIE effect can be utilized for high-tech innovations (183 references).

Fast Prototyping Of Video Interface Controller For AMLCD System

Liquid crystal photo-alignment using azo-dyes for display and photonics applications is discussed. Various types of the glass and plastic substrates are used. Special types of 3D LC alignment, LC alignment inside thin micro tubes, and LC cladding layers in Si based waveguides and grating surface are concerned. The azo-dye photoalignment of polymerized LC films used as optical elements, such as polarizers and phase retarders is also considered. Optically rewritable liquid crystal display for plastic cards applications is shown.

45.4: Azo‐Dye Alignment for Displays and Photonics

In this paper, transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) with two different modes low twist nematic (MTN) and electricity controlled birefringence (ECB) has been proposed. The structure contains only a single cell gap in transmissive and reflective part, therefore the fabrication process is easy and only one more step UV exposure is needed during photoalignment process to produce domains. This configuration has a good contrast, viewing angle, response time and transmittance / reflectance. As a result it is suitable for high quality transflective thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs.
