Aggregation-Induced Emission: Together We Shine, United We Soar!

Luminogenic materials with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) attributes have attracted much interest since the debut of the AIE concept in 2001. In this critical review, recent progress in the area of AIE research is summarized. Typical examples of AIE systems are discussed, from which their structure–property relationships are derived. Through mechanistic decipherment of the photophysical processes, structural design strategies for generating new AIE luminogens are developed. Technological, especially optoelectronic and biological, applications of the AIE systems are exemplified to illustrate how the novel AIE effect can be utilized for high-tech innovations (183 references).

Stochastic Processes in Physics and Chemistry

II–VI compound semiconductors, ZnS, ZnSe, CdS and CdSe, are well known for their important applications on a wide range of optoelectronic devices including light emitting diode and solid state laser operating in the visible spectrum range. The major difficulty of making optical devices by these materials is the fact that it cannot be easily doped to p-type. Actually the extensive efforts to make p-type materials have been continued more than thirty years. Until recently, the ZnS and ZnSe became possible to dope p-type with carrier concentration at the range of 1017–1018 cm−3 so that the efficient blue light laser was produced.1,2 High quality p-type CdS and CdSe thin films still cannot be produced although there are some reports on p-type CdS:Cu amorphous-like thin films.3,4

P-type ZnS, ZnSe, CdS and CdSe thin films growth by pulsed laser deposition

A technique to improve and accelerate aluminum induced crystallization (AIC) by using hydrogen plasma is proposed. Raman spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry of crystallized poly-Si thin films show that hydrogen plasma radicals reduce the crystallization time of AIC. This technique shortens the annealing time from 10 to 4 h and increases the Hall mobility from 22.1 to 42.5 cm2/(V?s). The possible mechanism of AIC assisted by hydrogen radicals is also discussed.

11‐4: Improvement of Ambient Contrast of Micro‐LED Devices with High Reliability

A bistable liquid crystal display based on the bend and splay configurations has been demonstrated using dual frequency liquid crystal. Unlike the previous three-electrode version, only two regular electrodes are needed in the present case. We also propose and demonstrate a convenient multiplex driving scheme for a BBS matrix display.
