Journal ArticleDOI
The Polycomb Group Protein Suz12 Is Required for Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Suz12 is required for the establishment of specific expression programs required for ES cell differentiation and evidence that PcGs have different mechanisms to regulate transcription during cellular differentiation is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
The sheep genome illuminates biology of the rumen and lipid metabolism
Yu Jiang,Yu Jiang,Yu Jiang,Min Xie,Wenbin Chen,Richard Talbot,Jillian F. Maddox,Thomas Faraut,Chunhua Wu,Donna M. Muzny,Yuxiang Li,Wenguang Zhang,Wenguang Zhang,Jo-Ann L. Stanton,Rudiger Brauning,W. TL;DR: A genome for ewe and ewe Sheep-specific genetic changes underlie differences in lipid metabolism between sheep and other mammals, and may have contributed to the production of wool.
Journal ArticleDOI
Retinoblastoma protein functions as a molecular switch determining white versus brown adipocyte differentiation.
Jacob B. Hansen,Claus Jørgensen,Rasmus Koefoed Petersen,Philip Hallenborg,Rita De Matteis,Hans A. Bøye,Natasa Petrovic,Sven Enerbäck,Jan Nedergaard,Saverio Cinti,Hein te Riele,Karsten Kristiansen +11 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the retinoblastoma protein pRB acts as a molecular switch determining white vs. brown adipogenesis, suggesting a previously uncharacterized function of this key cell cycle regulator in adipocyte lineage commitment and differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The retinoblastoma-histone deacetylase 3 complex inhibits PPARgamma and adipocyte differentiation
Lluis Fajas,Viviane Egler,Raphael Reiter,Jacob B. Hansen,Karsten Kristiansen,Marie-Bernard Debril,Stéphanie Miard,Johan Auwerx +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma), a nuclear receptor pivotal for adipogenesis, promotes adipocyte differentiation more efficiently in the absence of RB.
Journal ArticleDOI
UCP1 Induction during Recruitment of Brown Adipocytes in White Adipose Tissue Is Dependent on Cyclooxygenase Activity
Lise Madsen,Lise Madsen,Lone Møller Pedersen,Haldis H. Lillefosse,Haldis H. Lillefosse,Even Fjære,Even Fjære,Ingeborg Brønstad,Qin Hao,Rasmus Koefoed Petersen,Philip Hallenborg,Tao Ma,Rita De Matteis,Pedro Araujo,Josep Mercader,M. Luisa Bonet,Jacob B. Hansen,Barbara Cannon,Jan Nedergaard,Jun Wang,Saverio Cinti,Peter J. Voshol,Stein Ove Døskeland,Karsten Kristiansen +23 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that cyclooxygenase-dependent induction of UCP1 expression in white adipose tissues is important for diet-induced thermogenesis providing support for a surprising role of COX activity in the control of energy balance and obesity development.
