Journal ArticleDOI
IGF-1, IGFBP-1 and IGFBP-3 polymorphisms predict circulating IGF levels but not breast cancer risk: Findings from the breast and prostate cancer cohort consortium (BPC3)
Alpa V. Patel,Iona Cheng,Federico Canzian,Loic Le Marchand,Michael J. Thun,Christine D. Berg,Julie E. Buring,Eugenia E. Calle,Stephen J. Chanock,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,David G. Cox,Miren Dorronsoro,Laure Dossus,Christopher A. Haiman,Susan E. Hankinson,Brian E. Henderson,Robert N. Hoover,David J. Hunter,Rudolf Kaaks,Laurence N. Stram,Anne Tjønneland,Ruth C. Travis,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Rosario Tumino,Meredith Yeager,Regina G. Ziegler,Heather Spencer Feigelson +37 more
TL;DR: The impact of genetic variation in IGF1 and IGFBP3 on circulating IGF levels does not appear to substantially influence breast cancer risk substantially among primarily Caucasian postmenopausal women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Metabolic syndrome, plasma lipid, lipoprotein and glucose levels, and endometrial cancer risk in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
Anne E. Cust,Anne E. Cust,Anne E. Cust,Rudolf Kaaks,Christine M. Van Duijnhoven,Petra H.M. Peeters,Sheila Bingham,Sheila Bingham,Kay-Tee Khaw,Naomi E. Allen,Timothy J. Key,Pietro Ferrari,Sabina Rinaldi,Nadia Slimani,Eho Riboli +49 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that metabolic abnormalities and obesity may act synergistically to increase endometrial cancer risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anthropometry, Physical Activity, and the Risk of Pancreatic Cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition
Amy Berrington de Gonzalez,Elizabeth A Spencer,H. Bas Bueno-de-Mesquita,Andrew W. Roddam,Stolzenberg-Solomon R,Jytte Halkjær,Anne Tjønneland,Kim Overvad,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Marie-Christine Boutron-Ruault,Heiner Boeing,Tobias Pischon,Jakob Linseisen,Sabine Rohrmann,Antonia Trichopoulou,Vassiliki Benetou,Aristoteles Papadimitriou,Valeria Pala,Domenico Palli,Salvatore Panico,Rosario Tumino,Paolo Vineis,Hendriek C. Ramón Quirós,María José Tormo,Göran Hallmans,Weimin Ye,Sheila Bingham,Kay-Tee Khaw,Naomi E. Allen,Timothy J. Key,Mazda Jenab,Teresa Norat,Pietro Ferrari,Elio Riboli +42 more
TL;DR: There was evidence that the RR of pancreatic cancer was associated with increased height and there was a nonsignificant decreased risk with total physical activity, but future studies should consider including measurements of waist and hip circumference, to further investigate the relationship between central adiposity and the risk of Pancic cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma levels of six carotenoids in nine European countries: report from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
Wael K. Al-Delaimy,Anne Linda Van Kappel,Pietro Ferrari,Nadia Slimani,Jean-Paul Steghens,Sheila Bingham,Ingegerd Johansson,Peter Wallström,Kim Overvad,Anne Tjønneland,Timothy J. Key,Ailsa A Welch,H. TL;DR: Plasma levels of carotenoids vary substantially between 16 different regions in Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, the UK, Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands, and the relative influence of gender, season, age, body mass index, alcohol intake and smoking status is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heterocyclic aromatic amine intake increases colorectal adenoma risk: findings from a prospective European cohort study
TL;DR: The results of this first European cohort study support data from case-control studies of a positive association between HCA intake and colorectal adenoma risk.
