Journal ArticleDOI
A cross-tokamak neural network disruption predictor for the JET and ASDEX Upgrade tokamaks
TL;DR: While performance for networks trained and tested on the same device can be improved with more complex networks and many adjustable weights, for cross-machine testing the best approach is a simple single layer perceptron, which offers the basis of a potentially useful technique for large future devices such as ITER.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tritium retention in next step devices and the requirements for mitigation and removal techniques
G. F. Counsell,P. Coad,C Grisola,Ch. Hopf,Wolfgang Jacob,A. Kirschner,Arkadi Kreter,K. Krieger,Jari Likonen,V. Philipps,J. Roth,Marek Rubel,E Salancon,A. Semerok,Francisco L. Tabarés,Anna Widdowson,Jet-Efda Contributors +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an approach involving the integration of many tritium removal techniques into the ITER operational schedule as a means to extend the period of operations before major intervention is required.
Journal ArticleDOI
ELM-induced transient tungsten melting in the JET divertor
J. W. Coenen,G. Arnoux,B. Bazylev,G. F. Matthews,A. Autricque,I. Balboa,M. Clever,R. Dejarnac,I. H. Coffey,Yann Corre,Stéphane Devaux,Lorenzo Frassinetti,Estelle Gauthier,J. Horacek,S. Jachmich,Matthias Komm,M. Knaup,K. Krieger,S. Marsen,A. Meigs,Ph. Mertens,R.A. Pitts,T. Puetterich,M. Rack,M.F. Stamp,Gennady Sergienko,Patrick Tamain,V. Thompson,Jet-Efda Contributors +28 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the outer strike point of a full-tungsten (W) divertor was moved towards the leading edge of the W divertor and the base temperature was raised within 1 s to a level allowing transient melting during the subsequent 0.5 s.
Journal ArticleDOI
ELM resolved energy distribution studies in the JET MKII Gas-Box divertor using infra-red thermography
T. Eich,P. Andrew,A. Herrmann,Wojciech Fundamenski,A. Loarte,R.A. Pitts,Jet-Efda Contributors +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, power loads on the MKII Gas-Box divertor targets have been investigated in Type-I ELMy H-Mode plasmas at JET in medium current discharges.
Journal ArticleDOI
The European Integrated Tokamak Modelling (ITM) effort: achievements and first physics results
G. Falchetto,D. P. Coster,R. Coelho,Bruce D. Scott,Lorenzo Figini,Denis Kalupin,Eric Nardon,S. Nowak,Luís L Alves,J.F. Artaud,V. Basiuk,João P. S. Bizarro,Cédric Boulbe,Andreas Dinklage,Daniela Farina,Blaise Faugeras,Jorge Ferreira,A. Figueiredo,Ph. Huynh,Frederic Imbeaux,Irena Ivanova-Stanik,T. Jonsson,H.-J. Klingshirn,C. Konz,A. Zwingmann,Itm-Tf Contributors,Jet-Efda Contributors +40 more
TL;DR: The European Integrated Tokamak Modeling Task Force (EFDA ITM-TF) simulation framework as mentioned in this paper provides a standardized platform and an integrated modelling suite of validated numerical codes for the simulation and prediction of a complete plasma discharge of an arbitrary tokamak.
