Seasonal mercury concentrations measured in rural air in Southern Poland: Contribution from local and regional coal combustion
TL;DR: The concentration of total atmospheric gaseous mercury and total particulate mercury (TPM) have been measured during one summer campaign (19-29 August 2003) and one winter campaign (26 January-3 February 2004) at a rural site in Poland Mercury deposition was also measured using bulk samplers as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intercomparison study of atmospheric mercury models: 1. Comparison of models with short-term measurements.
Alexey Ryaboshapko,O. Russell Bullock,O. Russell Bullock,Jesper H. Christensen,Mark Cohen,Ashu Dastoor,Ilia Ilyin,Gerhard Petersen,Dimiter Syrakov,Richard S. Artz,Didier Davignon,Roland R. Draxler,John Munthe +12 more
TL;DR: Five regional scale models with a horizontal domain covering the European continent and its surrounding seas, one hemispheric and one global scale model participated in an atmospheric mercury modelling intercomparison study, finding the largest discrepancies between measurements and modelled concentrations were found for reactive gaseous mercury (RGM).
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Partnership for Chemicals Risk Assessment (PARC) is currently under development as a joint research and innovation programme to strengthen the scientific basis for chemical risk assessment in the EU as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling the atmospheric chemistry of mercury: the importance of a detailed description of the chemistry of cloud water
Karin Pleijel,John Munthe +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a model describing the aqueous chemistry and mass transfer processes of atmospheric mercury (Hg) has been used for analyzing the influence of various chemical and physical parameters on the Hg concentrations in the range 2 to 5 and 5 to 10 ng L 1 for dissolved and total Hg respectively.
Mercury in Nordic ecosystems
John Munthe,Ingvar Waengberg,Sigurd Rognerud,Eirik Fjeld,Matti Verta,Petri Porvari,Markus Meili +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a first comprehensive compilation and assessment of available data on mercury in air, precipitation, sediments and fish in the Nordic countries and conclude that methylmercury levels in Nordic ecosystems continue to be affected by long-range atmospheric transport.
