Journal ArticleDOI
Initial B-Cell Responses to Transmitted Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1: Virion-Binding Immunoglobulin M (IgM) and IgG Antibodies Followed by Plasma Anti-gp41 Antibodies with Ineffective Control of Initial Viremia
Georgia D. Tomaras,Nicole L. Yates,Pinghuang Liu,Li Qin,Genevieve G. Fouda,Leslie L. Chavez,Allan C. deCamp,Robert Parks,Vicki C Ashley,Judith T. Lucas,Myron S. Cohen,Joseph J. Eron,Charles B. Hicks,Hua-Xin Liao,Steven G. Self,Gary Landucci,Donald N. Forthal,Kent J. Weinhold,Brandon F. Keele,Beatrice H. Hahn,Michael L. Greenberg,Lynn Morris,Salim S. Abdool Karim,William A. Blattner,David C. Montefiori,George M. Shaw,Alan S. Perelson,Barton F. Haynes +27 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the first IgM and IgG antibodies induced by transmitted HIV-1 are capable of binding virions but have little impact on acute-phase viremia at the timing and magnitude that they occur in natural infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple HIV-1 specific IgG3 responses decline during acute HIV-1: implications for detection of incident HIV Infection
Nicole L. Yates,Judith T. Lucas,Tracy L. Nolen,Nathan Vandergrift,Kelly A. Soderberg,Kelly E. Seaton,Thomas N. Denny,Barton F. Haynes,Myron S. Cohen,Georgia D. Tomaras +9 more
TL;DR: The detailed measurements of the decline in multiple HIV-specific IgG3 responses simultaneous with persistent IgG1 responses during acute and recent HIV-1 infection could serve as markers for detection of incident HIV infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential reactivity of germ line allelic variants of a broadly neutralizing HIV-1 antibody to a gp41 fusion intermediate conformation.
S.M. Alam,Hua-Xin Liao,S.M. Dennison,Frederick H. Jaeger,R Parks,Kara Anasti,Andrew Foulger,Michele. Donathan,Judith T. Lucas,Laurent Verkoczy,Nathan I. Nicely,Georgia D. Tomaras,Garnett Kelsoe,Bing Chen,Thomas B. Kepler,Barton F. Haynes +15 more
TL;DR: Allelic variants of the VH2-5 inferred germ line forms of the HIV-1 gp41 bNAb 2F5 are studied for their antigen binding affinities to gp41 linear peptide and conformational protein antigens, demonstrating a genetically determined trait that may affect host responses to HIV- 1 envelope epitopes recognized by broadly neutralizing antibodies and has implications for unmutated ancestor-based immunogen design.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1-Specific IgA Monoclonal Antibodies from an HIV-1 Vaccinee Mediate Galactosylceramide Blocking and Phagocytosis.
Saintedym Wills,Kwan Ki Hwang,Pinghuang Liu,S. Moses Dennison,Matthew Zirui Tay,Xiaoying Shen,Justin Pollara,Judith T. Lucas,Robert Parks,Supachai Rerks-Ngarm,Punnee Pitisuttithum,Sorachai Nitayapan,Jaranit Kaewkungwal,Rasmi Thomas,Rasmi Thomas,Jerome H. Kim,Nelson L. Michael,Merlin L. Robb,Merlin L. Robb,Michael D. McRaven,David C. Montefiori,Thomas J. Hope,Hua-Xin Liao,M. Anthony Moody,Guido Ferrari,Barton F. Haynes,S. Munir Alam,Mattia Bonsignori,Georgia D. Tomaras +28 more
TL;DR: Characterization of the functional properties of HIV-1 Env-specific IgA monoclonal antibodies from human vaccine clinical trials are critical toward understanding the capacity of the host immune response to block HIV-2 acquisition and the complex and diverse interactions of vaccine-elicited IgA with pathogens that depend on IgA fine specificity and form in the systemic circulation and mucosal compartments.
Journal ArticleDOI
