Barcode sequencing and a high-throughput assay for chronological lifespan uncover ageing-associated genes in fission yeast.
Catalina A. Romila,StJohn Townsend,StJohn Townsend,Michal Malecki,Michal Malecki,Stephan Kamrad,Stephan Kamrad,Stephan Kamrad,María Rodríguez-López,Olivia Hillson,Cristina Cotobal,Markus Ralser,Jürg Bähler +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, an improved experimental and computational methods to study chronological lifespan in Schizosaccharomyces pombe were presented. But the results from the Bar-seq screen showed good agreement with this new assay, and identified many new ageingassociated genes as a framework for analyzing cellular ageing in yeast and beyond.
Journal ArticleDOI
CSL protein regulates transcription of genes required to prevent catastrophic mitosis in fission yeast
Martin Převorovský,Martina Oravcová,Róbert Zach,Anna Jordakova,Jürg Bähler,František Půta,Petr Folk +6 more
TL;DR: The results raise the possibility that CSL proteins play conserved roles in regulating cell-cycle progression, and they could guide experiments into mitotic CSL functions in mammals.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Multidisciplinary, Open Access Platform for Research on Biomolecules.
TL;DR: Biomolecules, a new journal to report on all aspects of science that focuses on biologically derived substances, from small molecules to complex polymers, is introduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fitness Landscape of the Fission Yeast Genome
Leanne Grech,Daniel C. Jeffares,Daniel C. Jeffares,Christoph Yves Sadée,María Rodríguez-López,Danny A. Bitton,Mimoza Hoti,Carolina Biagosch,Dimitra Aravani,Maarten Speekenbrink,Christopher J. R. Illingworth,Philipp H. Schiffer,Alison L. Pidoux,Pin Tong,Victor A. Tallada,Robin C. Allshire,Henry L. Levin,Jürg Bähler +17 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the combination of transposon mutagenesis, evolutionary, and biochemical data can provide new insights into the relationship between genome function and molecular evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
N-termini of fungal CSL transcription factors are disordered, enriched in regulatory motifs and inhibit DNA binding in fission yeast.
Martin Převorovský,Martin Převorovský,Sophie R. Atkinson,Martina Ptáčková,Janel R. McLean,Kathleen L. Gould,Petr Folk,František Půta,Jürg Bähler +8 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the regulation of DNA binding by Cbf12 via its N-terminal region represents an important means by which fission yeast strikes a balance between the class F1 and class F2 paralog activities.
