Circulating microRNAs in patients with chronic hepatitis C and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Silvia Cermelli,Anna Ruggieri,Anna Ruggieri,Jorge A. Marrero,George N. Ioannou,Laura Beretta +5 more
TL;DR: Serum levels ofmiR-34a and miR-122 may represent novel, noninvasive biomarkers of diagnosis and histological disease severity in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection or non-alcoholic fatty-liver disease (NAFLD).
Journal ArticleDOI
The human proteome project: Current state and future direction
Pierre Legrain,Ruedi Aebersold,Ruedi Aebersold,Alexander I. Archakov,Amos Marc Bairoch,Kumar Bala,Laura Beretta,John J.M. Bergeron,Christoph H. Borchers,Garry L. Corthals,Catherine E. Hochstrasser,György Marko-Varga,Ghasem Hosseini Salekdeh,Salvatore Sechi,Michael Snyder,Sudhir Srivastava,Mathias Uhlén,Cathy H. Wu,Tadashi Yamamoto,Young Ki Paik,Gilbert S. Omenn +25 more
TL;DR: The Human Proteome Organization urges each national research funding agency and the scientific community at large to identify their preferred pathways to participate in aspects of this highly promising project in a HPP consortium of funders and investigators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence for an alternative fatty acid desaturation pathway increasing cancer plasticity
Kim Vriens,Stefan Christen,Sweta Parik,Dorien Broekaert,Kazuaki Yoshinaga,Ali Talebi,Jonas Dehairs,Carmen Escalona-Noguero,Roberta Schmieder,Thomas Cornfield,Catriona Charlton,Laura Romero-Pérez,Matteo Rossi,Gianmarco Rinaldi,Martin F. Grunewald,Sarah-Maria Fendt +45 more
TL;DR: In several human and mouse cancer cell lines and carcinomas, a sapienate biosynthesis pathway underpins metabolic plasticity by allowing these cells to bypass stearoyl-CoA desaturase-dependent fatty acid desaturation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of osteopontin as a novel marker for early hepatocellular carcinoma.
Sufen Shang,Amelie Plymoth,Amelie Plymoth,Shaokui Ge,Ziding Feng,Hugo R. Rosen,Suleeporn Sangrajrang,Pierre Hainaut,Jorge A. Marrero,Laura Beretta +9 more
TL;DR: O osteopontin (OPN) was more sensitive than AFP for the diagnosis of HCC in all studied HCC groups and remained intact in samples collected 1 year before diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and Predictors of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients With Cirrhosis
George N. Ioannou,Meaghan F. Splan,Noel S. Weiss,George B. McDonald,George B. McDonald,Laura Beretta,Sum P. Lee +6 more
TL;DR: 6 important predictors of hepatocellular carcinoma have been identified in multivariate models (including relatively novel predictors such as increased body mass index, HBV core antibody, and low platelet count), which suggest a means of predicting the risk of hepatitis C virus infection in patients with cirrhosis and optimizing surveillance strategies.
