Effect of uremic toxins on hippocampal cell damage: analysis in vitro and in rat model of chronic kidney disease.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of uremic toxins on neuronal cells and analyzes the pathological condition of the brain using mouse hippocampal neuronal HT-22 cells and adenine-induced CKD model rats.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characteristic effects of methylglyoxal and its degraded product formate on viability of human histiocytes: A possible detoxification pathway of methylglyoxal

TL;DR: The present study examined the effects of MGO and FA on cell viability using the U937 human histiocytic cell line and suggested that FA production by MGO degradation may play a role in attenuation of oxidative cellular injury caused by Mgo.

Mechanical stretch down-regulates expression of the Smad6 gene in cultured rat mesangial cells

TL;DR: Results indicate that glomerular hypertension might augment Smad1 signaling with concomitant attenuation of Smad6-mediated negative feedback, and mechanical stretch increases phospho-Smad1 levels and down-regulates Smad 6 mRNA expression in mesangial cells.
