Journal ArticleDOI
An atlas of the protein-coding genes in the human, pig, and mouse brain
Evelina Sjöstedt,Evelina Sjöstedt,Wen Zhong,Linn Fagerberg,Max J. Karlsson,Nicholas Mitsios,Csaba Adori,Per Oksvold,Fredrik Edfors,Agnieszka Limiszewska,Feria Hikmet,Jinrong Huang,Yutao Du,Lin Lin,Zhanying Dong,Ling Yang,Xin Liu,Hui Jiang,Xun Xu,Jian Wang,Huanming Yang,Lars Bolund,Adil Mardinoglu,Cheng Zhang,Kalle von Feilitzen,Cecilia Lindskog,Fredrik Pontén,Yonglun Luo,Tomas Hökfelt,Mathias Uhlén,Mathias Uhlén,Jan Mulder +31 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive molecular dissection of the main regions of the human, pig, and mouse brain using transcriptomics and antibody-based mapping suggests similar regional organization and expression patterns in the three mammalian species, consistent with the view that basic brain architecture is preserved during mammalian evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in hyaluronan production and metabolism following ischaemic stroke in man
Ahmed Al'Qteishat,John Gaffney,Jerzy Krupinski,Francisco Rubio,David C. West,Shant Kumar,Patricia Kumar,Nicholas Mitsios,Mark Slevin +8 more
TL;DR: It is found that the production of total HA and low molecular mass 3-10 disaccharides of HA (o-HA) was increased in post-mortem tissue and in the serum of patients 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after ischaemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of Epithelial-Stromal Interactions on Peritumoral Fibroblasts in Ductal Carcinoma in Situ.
Carina Strell,Carina Strell,Janna Paulsson,Shao Bo Jin,Nicholas P. Tobin,Nicholas P. Tobin,Artur Mezheyeuski,Pernilla Roswall,Ceren Mutgan,Nicholas Mitsios,Hemming Johansson,Sarah Marie Wickberg,Jessica Svedlund,Mats Nilsson,Mats Nilsson,Per Hall,Jan Mulder,Derek C. Radisky,Kristian Pietras,Jonas Bergh,Urban Lendahl,Fredrik Wärnberg,Arne Östman +22 more
TL;DR: The Jagged-1/Notch2/PDGFR stroma-epithelial pathway was described as a novel signaling mechanism regulating this poor prognosis-associated fibroblast subset of DCIS and contributes to ongoing efforts to define clinically relevant fibro Blast subsets and their etiology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anoctamin 2 identified as an autoimmune target in multiple sclerosis
Burcu Ayoglu,Nicholas Mitsios,Ingrid Kockum,Mohsen Khademi,Arash Zandian,Ronald Sjöberg,Björn Forsström,Johan Bredenberg,Izaura Lima Bomfim,Erik Holmgren,Hans Grönlund,André Ortlieb Guerreiro-Cacais,Nada Abdelmagid,Mathias Uhlén,Tim Waterboer,Lars Alfredsson,Lars Alfredsson,Jan Mulder,Jochen M. Schwenk,Tomas Olsson,Peter Nilsson +20 more
TL;DR: The findings presented here demonstrate that an ANO2 autoimmune subphenotype may exist in MS and lay the groundwork for further studies focusing on the pathogenic role of ANO1 autoantibodies in MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathophysiology of acute ischaemic stroke: an analysis of common signalling mechanisms and identification of new molecular targets.
TL;DR: The objective of this review is to critically evaluate the major mechanisms underlying stroke pathophysiology, especially the role of cell signalling in excitotoxicity, inflammation, apoptosis, neuroprotection and angiogenesis, and highlight potential novel targets for drug discovery.
