TL;DR: Monitoring selection and responding to emerging signs of drug resistance are critical tools for preserving efficacy of artemisinin combination therapies; determination of the prevalence of at least pfcrt K76T and pfmdr1 N86Y should now be routine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic difficulties with Plasmodium knowlesi infection in humans.
TL;DR: The results of this study indicate the geographic distribution of natural P. knowlesi human infections includes Indonesian Borneo, although this detection is no surprise because many P.knowlesi isolates are found in Malaysian Bornea.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy and Safety of Triple Combination Therapy With Artesunate-Amodiaquine–Methylene Blue for Falciparum Malaria in Children: A Randomized Controlled Trial in Burkina Faso
Boubacar Coulibaly,Michael Pritsch,Mamadou Bountogo,Peter Meissner,Eric Nebie,Christina Klose,Meinhard Kieser,Nicole Berens-Riha,Andreas Wieser,Sodiomon B. Sirima,Jörg Breitkreutz,R. Heiner Schirmer,Ali Sié,Frank P. Mockenhaupt,Chris Drakeley,Teun Bousema,Olaf Müller +16 more
TL;DR: The combination of MB with an artemisinin-based combination therapy has been confirmed to be effective against the gametocytes of P. falciparum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ototoxicity of artemether/lumefantrine in the treatment of falciparum malaria: a randomized trial.
Robert Gürkov,Teferi Eshetu,Teferi Eshetu,Isabel Barreto Miranda,Nicole Berens-Riha,Yoseph Mamo,Tsinuel Girma,Eike Krause,Michael Schmidt,John-Martin Hempel,Thomas Löscher +10 more
TL;DR: There was no detrimental effect of a standard oral regimen of artemether/lumefantrine on peripheral hearing or brainstem auditory pathways in patients with uncomplicated falciparum malaria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Intranasal Outer Membrane Vesicles with Cholera Toxin and Injected MF59C.1 as Adjuvants for Malaria Transmission Blocking Antigens AnAPN1 and Pfs48/45.
Michael Pritsch,Najib Ben-Khaled,Michael Chaloupka,Sebastian Kobold,Nicole Berens-Riha,Annabell Peter,Gabriele Liegl,Sören Schubert,Michael Hoelscher,Thomas Löscher,Andreas Wieser +10 more
TL;DR: When OMV were used as adjuvant for intranasal immunization, antibody and cellular responses against all three antigens could be induced, comparable to cholera toxin and MF59C.
