Journal ArticleDOI
Reddening and extinction toward the galactic bulge from ogle-iii: the inner milky way's rv ∼ 2.5 extinction curve*
David M. Nataf,David M. Nataf,Andrew Gould,Pascal Fouqué,Pascal Fouqué,Oscar A. Gonzalez,Jennifer A. Johnson,Jan Skowron,Andrzej Udalski,Michał K. Szymański,M. Kubiak,Grzegorz Pietrzyński,Grzegorz Pietrzyński,Igor Soszyński,Krzysztof Ulaczyk,Łukasz Wyrzykowski,Łukasz Wyrzykowski,Radosław Poleski +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors combine VI photometry from OGLE-III with VISTA Variables in The Via Lactea survey and Two Micron All Sky Survey measurements of E(J? Ks ) to resolve the longstanding problem of the non-standard optical extinction toward the Galactic bulge.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The ESO VISTA public survey VISTA variables in the Va Lctea (VVV) started in 2010 and is expected to run for about five years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alpha element abundances and gradients in the Milky Way bulge from FLAMES-GIRAFFE spectra of 650 K giants
Oscar A. Gonzalez,Marina Rejkuba,Manuela Zoccali,Vanessa Hill,Giuseppina Battaglia,C. Babusiaux,Dante Minniti,Dante Minniti,Beatriz Barbuy,Alan Alves-Brito,Alvio Renzini,Ana Gómez,Sergio Ortolani +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the analysis of the [α/Fe] abundance ratios for a large number of stars at several locations in the Milky Way bulge with the aim of constraining its formation scenario.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vvv survey near-infrared photometry of known bulge rr lyrae stars: the distance to the galactic center and absence of a barred distribution of the metal-poor population
I. Dékány,Dante Minniti,Márcio Catelan,Manuela Zoccali,Roberto K. Saito,Maren Hempel,Oscar A. Gonzalez +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors combined optical and near-infrared data of known RR Lyrae (RRL) stars in the bulge in order to study the spatial distribution of its metal-poor component by measuring precise reddening values and distances of 7663 fundamental-mode RRL stars with high-quality photometry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping the x-shaped milky way bulge
Roberto K. Saito,Manuela Zoccali,Andrew McWilliam,Dante Minniti,Dante Minniti,Oscar A. Gonzalez,Vanessa Hill +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of the red clump stars throughout the Galactic bulge using Two Micron All Sky Survey data was analyzed, and the authors concluded that the Milky Way bulge has an X-shaped structure within |l| 2°, seen almost edge-on with respect to the line of sight.
