Vvv dr1: the first data release of the milky way bulge and southern plane from the near-infrared eso public survey vista variables in the via lactea

R. K. Saito, +121 more
TL;DR: The ESO VISTA public survey VISTA variables in the Va Lctea (VVV) started in 2010 and is expected to run for about five years.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vvv survey near-infrared photometry of known bulge rr lyrae stars: the distance to the galactic center and absence of a barred distribution of the metal-poor population

TL;DR: In this article, the authors combined optical and near-infrared data of known RR Lyrae (RRL) stars in the bulge in order to study the spatial distribution of its metal-poor component by measuring precise reddening values and distances of 7663 fundamental-mode RRL stars with high-quality photometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mapping the x-shaped milky way bulge

TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of the red clump stars throughout the Galactic bulge using Two Micron All Sky Survey data was analyzed, and the authors concluded that the Milky Way bulge has an X-shaped structure within |l| 2°, seen almost edge-on with respect to the line of sight.
